Re: Flatline opus 1&2

Sorry for upsetting your sleeping paten Bob, I'm having the same problem, found myself cleaning the glue off my hands at 1.30 am last night ( I'm sure there's a fold in the space/ time continuum in my shed   ), but due to that things are starting to come together. Here's a good reason to m...

No Hazard, it's just the three timbers we gathered on our timber hunting trip and a bit of Silver Ash, it's just how you mix them. How'd that bottle of turkey go Paul, still feeling happy :| :( 8) . Thanks KellyG, Memo, Sambar, I'm having a ball doing the thread so you're welcome  . Here...

Re: Flatline opus 1&2

Here are the results of my big glue. The blanks for the string groove overlays (which were cut from the glued block). These are stacked together, taped and cut into shape at the same time. Then tapered quite steeply on the wide end to blend them into the limb but still maintain enough thickness to b...

Thanks again fella's, Good to see you poke your head in Paul, the glue arrived so I can get onto your limbs after I clear a space on the bench  . OK, this is it folks, right over the top , here's my limb bolt overlay up-grade. Very fiddly bit of work being so small, but this is how I would normally do this kind of laminating, in a staged, layer build up. Sometimes it's difficult to keep the whole thing in your head so you have to really think...

Re: Flatline opus 1&2

I'm still at it slowly, the days are big at work lately so not as much time to put into the bows as I'd like. I'm up-grading the limb bolt overlays for my bow cause I'm sick of never having the best bow I've made. Everytime I make myself a bow, the very next bow I make for someone else trumps it,,,,...

Thanks Bob, I don't know if all bowyers go to this much trouble, and ya gota remember these bows are a long way from being "standard" bows, I'm putting a lot of extras into them simply because I doubt very much that I'll ever get timber like this again, so they're special. But then, the st...

I originally started using thinner glass on the back because most of the research I did in the beginning showed it was the done thing, couldn't find any documentation that stated why though. In my humble opinion I think it's a mater of simple physics, like it's a lot harder to break something by pul...

Re: The Communal Village

It's a romantic notion. 30 years ago, my parents bought into some land with a number of other permaculture enthusiasts. It didn't work out. Nothing nasty, but they just didn't seem to be able to agree on how to move forward and eventually lost their momentum. The main guy, then moved to Crystal Wat...

OK back to it, This is when you also check for limb twist. After stringing the bow I put the back face of the riser on the ground and put my foot on the belly to hold it there, then draw the bow several times (don't be afraid to work the bow, it will help release residual tensions in the limbs) and ...
