Re: arrow flight question

I have often found that if shooting 3 fingers under, then 1-2mm lower than that of mediterranean - but I have also heard other say the opposite. Much depends on how the bow is tillered too. I have one recurve here than doesn't seem to mind eitherway, or even if I string walk a little (experimenting)...

Re: WHY?

That's a good question. Is it possible that aluminium arrows at that time were not manufactured in sufficient quantities as to be considered a commerical product to be accessable by the general archery public? I thought Howard Hill used glass laminates on his bows well before 1950, first as a backin...

Re: Do we have any fixed crawlers on the site???

Well actually ABA doesn't allow string/face walking same with IFAA in Bowhunter Recurve but in IFAA Barebow recurve or compound as well you are able to face/string walk and use long stabiliser. Karl You are right. I had a closer look at the IFAA rules, and whilst it does not mention string/face wal...

The old glass ceiling myth. Goes along with the gender wage gap myth, rape culture on campus myth, and global warming (by human means) myth. An interesting book was published called Sick Societies, which shows evidence of societies in the past that have become extinct though social myths. As much as...

Re: Do we have any fixed crawlers on the site???

It comes as a bit of a surprise to me, but AA and World Archery (fka FITA) do allow facewalking and string walking in their barebow division. By the description, it is an non-compound division. Apparently it is increasing in popularity, particularly for indoor events. Commentary even suggested than ...

IFAA and longbow

I was having a look at the IFAA rulebook, for a completely different reason to Trad, and I noticed that IFAA does not recognise a hybrid/modern longbow: https://www.ifaa-archery.org/index.php/archery/bow-styles/longbow It would seem that they are put into recurve division (being a semi recurve that ...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.

The braced profile of the bow is not always indicative of its style. The TAA guidlines state the longbow being in the strung state. Now knowing the lengths, I would have thought longbow, longbow, probably longbow. I would have said the last as being longbow, however the TAA guidelines says "wh...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.

...... don’t submit a score card, shoot whatever bow I choose on the day and have fun. That is a great attitude, wish more had it. Problem I think is when people want to compete. As to the bows question. Much would depend on if the event is sticking strictly to the TAA guidelines or not. Assuming t...

I hear you but I guess for my part, I saw "When strung and at brace height, the string must not touch the belly of the bow at all" and thought "longbow". Although I accept that is a simplistic view, but I like simple.
I like simple too, works for me.

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.

The joys of a committee. Baby steps. I can only summarise from what I seem to be seeing at the time, that around the inception of the TAA as corporation there was a lot of resistance against separating out these semi-recurve/quasi modern longbows from tradition longbows from quite a few. Trad shoots...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.

Daryl, You may already know this but there are actually three styles of longbow outlined in the TAA Equipment Guidelines...... 2. Hybrid Longbow - basically a reflex/deflex longbow as long as the string does not touch the belly of the bow when strung. To be pedantic (and not to take away from the p...

He also had the length of the belly side of the grip only 3.5" to 4" long and the heel of his hand would actually be partly below the end of the grip. He needed the riser shaped like this so he could shoot the bow the way he wanted. Now that is interesting, and makes sense, particularly w...

Re: DECURVE LONGBOW DESIGN

I've always said if you are shooting a longbow correctly you will need an armguard to protect your forearm from the bow string. This is because of a lower brace height and drawing the bow inline with the forearm. Of course I don't mean it is ok to have the bow string contacting near the elbow runni...

Re: DECURVE LONGBOW DESIGN

Perhaps a firm ‘suitcase’ grip on the bow was required to stop the bow from rotating to the left or right in the hand during the draw/anchor/release cycle. Daryl. I read in one of Bryon's books that he deliberately built his longbow handles 15% off-centre for predictability of torque. I've always s...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.

TAA; Longbow; the longbow refers to the traditional, straight end style longbow. The bow must be of wooden or bamboo construction. Materials such as fibreglass, Phenolic or carbon strips are permitted. Carbon arrow shafts are not permitted as they cannot be seen as traditional. ABA; Traditional Lon...

Re: Do we have any fixed crawlers on the site???

ABA doesn't allow this method of aiming, however AA allows face and string walking in their barebow recurve division (not longbow) - which surprises me, but probably has more to do with American element when FITA become World Archery (speculation only). 3DAAA allows it on their open division (not Tr...

Re: DECURVE LONGBOW DESIGN

Hello Jeff. Would it be true to say that you build reflex though out the entire limb, distributing the force evenly through out the bow, where as many of the Howard Hill style reflex bows are more done with what might be described as off-set, which is more pronounced at the handle/riser, therefore c...

Re: DECURVE LONGBOW DESIGN

Stickbow Hunter is very correct about the amounts of reflex and limb design. Another aspect to consider, is that if they are receiving a lot of hand shock (or any hand shock), they are gripping the bow too tightly. Assuming a bow sling is not allowed or used, ideally a bow should be only held as muc...

How twitter has change the meaning of #

It strikes me as funny with twitter how the # symbol is referred to as 'hash tag', where generally it referred to 'pounds'. This is very evident in archery where we use it to express bow weight at a given drawlength ie 45#@28" I wonder if the 'hash tag' me too (#metoo) misandry movement realize...

I didn't watch the video, but going by the comments, the fixed crawl method of aiming was mentioned. Just a couple of pointers with regards that - that method will more than likely not work on a short bow like the Kodiak Magnum. Secondly, if you ever want to shoot in any organised events in Australi...

The Ragim Black Bear is not a bad choice, and sort of a copy of the Bear Grissly/Black Bear, at half the cost. The Ragim Black Bear has string grooves, were as the Bear Black Bear did not. The string grooves I see as a bonus. The Ragim Black Bear is short at 58", but maintains it's smoothness o...
