Hi Mark,
I am interested in they way you incorporated the string bridge in the siyahs. Where they over size in the glueup and then reduced after the bow was on the tiller stick or did you have a predetermined plan.
Keep up the good work,

Daryl.

Hi WTM
You've done an excellent job with the first one.
I would imagine there will be a few more coming of the form.
Best of all though is the price. :D

Hi, I picked up two 36" hickory billets today at $17.00 each. The way in which they were stacked made it impossible to sort through them, probably in the vicinity of 100,000 sticks. I am currently reducing them to laminations which have yielded ten per billet. I will keep you posted to let you ...

Hi Brainbruise,
The bow is looking good. Have you had any problems getting the siyahs to line up through the handle? My previous attempts didn't include glass in the laminations and the slightest bit of limb twist threw the siyahs out of alignment.
Keep up the good work,
Daryl.

Hi Grahame,
I can remember buying tracers in the late 70's. We used to call them 'bunny fluff'. A few club members tried them but at the end of the day they weren't worth the throuble. Just another American fad.

I will be sourcing conical brass fittings and thinner nylon washers which should improve the overall appearance. As an R&D project I gained valuable information.

It Works! (Takedown Longbow Finished)

After completing the last of six workshops I managed to finish the take down longbow. Reducing the draw weight to a comfortable 50# was achieved by re profiling the plan of the limbs and a gentle trapezoid from the back to belly. To make life easier and to preserve my body parts (although I did some...

It may be worthwile getting in touch with Cliff Turpin, (Turbow). He makes reproductions of medieval crossbows. I believe he holds an armourers licence to comply with Queensland legislation.

Hi,
If you are going to take the time to do a true splice it may be better to use un-cut feathers so that when you finish the splice the feather can be chopped to maintain a true profile on the outer edge of the feather.

Hi,
Have you considered trying a thumb ring?
The thumb release seems to be very efficient and lends itself to gaining a very good follow through. At present I have tried this method on a 42# static tip bow without the ring and was surprised with the results.

Hi Daniel, From the figures you have given I think the bow will be way over built. You must remember that when using bamboo on a bow the diameter of the pole will have a bearing on the height of the crown of the bamboo in relation of the width of the limbs. A limb width of 30mm at the fadeouts and 1...

Daniel, I am a little unsure of the way in which you are constructing the bow. From your previous post it looks like you are using a butt joint of the laminations on the handle. Some factors that determine the finished product are the length of the bow, width of the limbs at the fadeouts and string ...

Hi LTH,
I would recommend using fletching tape. You will fletch a set of arrows in a fraction of the time that it takes using fletching cement and there is no mess. You will still need to apply a daub of glue on the leading edge and tail of the feather.
