Re: whats the longest wait?
Thanks Chase,
I'll check those out too and I've also contacted a couple of Australian bowyers too. I like the idea of supporting some of the local craftsmen too and Aussie timbers are some of the most beautiful in the world.
Thanks
Simon

Ben,
What are those Silvertips like to shoot, they're fine looking bows. How much do they cost?
Cheers

Re: whats the longest wait?
Ok so my custom bow STILL isn't here and they haven't even started building it and they can't tell me when they will start either so it's been about 16 - 17 months already without any work starting. So they have now offered to give me a deposit refund but I'm still gutted, the wait and the image I h...

what native timbers for a board bow?
I'm planning to have a go at making a pyramid board bow in the next few weeks and I would prefer to use native hardwoods rather than cheap smelly imports (like me) . Anyone have any ideas what the best timbers are? I know spotted gum is one but any others too (particularly Victorian species)....

Re: How not to win the PR debate
Yes Murray CMA may have funding but that is my point, there are certain areas that have been given higher priority funding and one of those is the Murray CMA with a number of huge projects funded, however other areas haven't been so lucky so this plan may not be applicable across Aus only in certain...

Dennis, Thanks for that, a very informative and insightful post from you as always. I've been using that deeper hook since this was first posted and haven't had any problems with my fingers, I think my improved grouping was more to do with increased training as opposed to the deep hook and the lack ...

I wonder if albinoism in the roos is becoming more common due to the lack of natural hunting pressure (natural selection) from dingoes and man? Because they're not exactly the best camo when hiding from predators.

I gave up smoking about 20 years ago , doc told me that my asthma was so bad that if I didn't give up smoking it wouldn't be a case that I might be dead in a year it would be a certainty , I just put the packet I had in my pocket in the bin and the other half a carton stayed in the cupboard for ano...

Re: what wood to make arrows?
Hi Dennis, I've been thinking about using dowel for awhile now. A mate gets bails of the stuff from a manufacturer in Melb who sells it for about $100 a bail (enough to fit in an oil drum) because they're all too short for bunnings. What timber are you using, the pines or the vic ash/tassie oak dowe...

Looseplucker, I agree not interested in the whole trophy thing after all the lions head looks much better left on the animal than on the wall. I think originally the idea of trophy hunting of big game in Africa was about population management and creating an alternative industry for local communitie...

Hi Grahame, All across Sikkim, India and Bhutan archery is hugely popular. Where we have the footy oval/cricket oval in towns and villages they have archery ranges. tarting up some of those Goldtip (not so)Traditional carbons
Hi guys, been thinking of getting into wooden arrows and making up a set of nicely painted and fletched arrows for the up coming Ballarat shoot in October, only problem is that I'm still hitting the odd inanimate object that isn't the target (trees and the odd rock) so it could be expensive for me. ...

I thought the same about the asymetry of the points but at 62,000 years I think time has taken its toll. Its also possible that once some of them were past their use by dates as points then they were re knapped as other tools, if that is the case then it's likely to be mentioned in the paper. It cou...
