Re: Black Hunter Longbow on Ebay

I hesitated replying to this as I can't resist saying no-one in their wildest dreams could think that bow was a longbow, surely! To me the limbs look even length and in the photos of the bow hanging by the pivot point of the handle it looks to be hanging at the half way point length wise. Photos at ...

Re: Camp ovens

Thanks Ron; it sure is in urgent need of attention. It looks like a Metters oven. To clean it up I would use a molasses bath or electrolysis as these methods will not harm the casting finish of the oven. DO NOT use sand blasting or grinding discs on angle grinders as these will damage the oven. If y...

Hey mate would you be able to post up a couple of photos of those ovens please as I would love to see them.

Re: Camp ovens

All good thanks mate. Yeah, the old ovens are getting hard to come by and can cost a bit but they are worth it IMO. Keep an eye out on your local buy, swap and sell pages and garage sales etc as they do come up. If you find one be sure to check it over carefully for hairline cracks; especially under...

Re: Camp ovens

G'day Guy, We cook with camp ovens all the time and have quite a collection. IMO the old style ovens (real camp ovens  ), with domed lids and long legs are the best to cook with. However in saying that the Chinese made ones (mostly no legs) will cook a feed just the same. When purchasing ma...

Daryl, I was meaning all the arrows are facing to the left so the women would use their right hand to place the clamps on the jigs. As a left hander I would have the arrows facing to the right. :)

Re: arrow flight question

G'day Bodie, The standard if you like is ⅜" above right angles to the shelf. This is if you shot Mediterranean release (split fingers). If you shoot three under someone else will have to step in and help with the measurement. Really it is just a matter of trying different heights by adjusting a...

Re: WHY?

The die hard wooden arrow fraternity tell us they are just as good as their modern counterpart but at most TAA shoots carbon/alloy arrows ect are not recognised . I personally would hate to see a separate division based on arrow material. We could end up like another archery association that has so...

Re: WHY?

There is special feel about a set of well crafted timber arrows that can’t be matched by synthetic arrows. Unfortunately, as the generation of our era pass on these crafts will probably be lost forever in Australia. It will be a sad day when the selfbow disappears. I agree 100%. Sadly, just like wi...

Re: WHY?

Fibre glass used in bows is considered to be traditional yet an aluminium arrow which predates fibreglass by ten years is not. IMO aluminium and fibreglass arrows are traditional but I just like shooting wood. The reason arrows made of those materials were not allowed at the Australian Longbow Must...

I was having a look at the IFAA rulebook, for a completely different reason to Trad, and I noticed that IFAA does not recognise a hybrid/modern longbow: https://www.ifaa-archery.org/index.php/ ... es/longbow It would seem that they are put into recurve division (being a semi recurve that they are)....

Re: Variances in timber shafts.

Have your shafts within five pound spine weight and fifty grains in physical weight. I know some will say that is not close enough tolerances but I haven't met the archer who could shoot good enough to tell the difference. Me personally I have my arrows matched closer but that is just me being fussy...
