Re: New recurve bow
Hey Rod How's it going? Good to see you're still at it mate. Can't see anything to fault in your design, looks the goods to me. One thing I would suggest is when you make your form, flatten the area where your nock tips will be, makes for easier fitting and gluing of your overlays. Oh and another th...

Very nice work Sean. I really like the timber/antler combo, you must be as happy as a pig the proverbial hey!
Keep up the great work man.

Re: A couple of curves
Excellent work Rod, I knew you would come around to the curves in the end. A little more challenging, but what a great result. How do they shoot? Did you make two separate forms or just leave the limbs longer to get the different length bows? Don't usually use imported timbers but I bought my self a...

Re: Recurve for longer draws
I'd recommend the MC2 take down, the same one Graydon has. The Raptor is indeed a nice light bow to cart around the bush with a smooth, no stack draw to 31 inches but at 58 inches long I reckon you would start to hit the wall and get a bit of finger pinch at your 32.75" draw. I should also ment...

Re: Recurve for longer draws
Hey Fraser, don't mean to blow my own trumpet but Flatline Bows are made for the longer draw. I draw 30 1/2 "s my son draws 31+"s and there's still nothing like stack at that length. I reckon I can build you one that'll do the job. I've also dropped the price on my bows by $200 to try to s...

Re: Here's a pretty one
Well here's a full draw pic. Turns out my draw length is 30 1/2 inches, an inch longer than I thought it was, the arrow in the pic is 33 1/2"s from knock to tip. Any way it draws smooth all the way to my draw and further, my young fella draws 31"s but he's a bit of a snap shooter so none o...

Does anyone know what timber this is ?
I was given a small log of this through a friend who got it from an old bloke that used to make knives but he doesn't know what it is and neither do I. It is quite heavy and hard, doesn't have a distinctive smell, has bark a bit like Ironbark and sapwood about 10-15mm thick. Someone said it could be...

Re: Well I reckon its Cactus
I must have misunderstood when we spoke on the phone the other day, I had the impression the crack was through the limb the other way, IE; perpendicular to the flat face of the limb. It appears to me the timber lamination it self has failed, not the glue, and failed over the end of the wedge which i...

Thanks Steve, Graydon and Jeff. [quote= Is the Tulip oak dyed or is that its normal colour? I assume it is native? Here's a pretty one
This has to be one of the prettiest bows I've made. It's for one of the doctors (Rob) I've done a lot of building work for over the last 15 or so years. last year I spent 5-6 months staying at his lakeside acreage on the tablelands in the small existing cottage while I built an opulent, two story, h...

Nice one Texx. What are the bulbs you are using? Im gona run out of the old incandesant ones soon so need to look into alternatives.
As for the rubber band method I've never tried it, allways had doubts about maintaining even pressure over the whole bow,but others use it and have success.

Re: Flatline Raptor one piece recurve build-along
Back again. After waiting four days for the final coat to dry a string and bear hair style strike plate and arrow rest are installed and it’s time to put it through the crono. Twelve carbon arrows of 9 grains per pound of draw weight are shot and an average taken and this bow’s average speed is 190 ...

Here's a thought Johno, if you drop the platform that the jack sits on to a point that when it is almost fully extended the deck is against the sanding wheel, the increment of adjustment will be less than when the jack is at a lower point of adjustment. Due to the design of the jack it has a reverse...

Re: Flatline Raptor one piece recurve build-along
Continued from the edit of the last post. Then it’s on to the string groove overlays. I start with thin veneers about 2 mm thick, 135 mm long and wide enough to suit the limb width at the overlay’s widest point. These are tapered from half their length too nothing being careful to keep a nice square...
