Re: The converting hunt

You're right about it being addictive Jack. I like nothing more than to get out on my property and go for a walk for a few hours. I might see a few bunnies or a fox and only get a couple of shots off but you definitely get the adrenalin going. For me, it's the simplicity of the stick and string with...

G'day Sue, have you heard anything about The Gathering? It's usually on the June long weekend isn't it? I can't find anything about it here or on the HVTA website.

My new hunting dog - Koda

I just thought I would submit a photo of my new hunting dog, Koda. She's a champion dog and has rows of teeth like broken glass. Muscles like iron, reflexes like greased lightning and eyes that bore into her prey like lasers. If you let her, she would take your foot off at the hip. This dog is not t...

Re: LEST WE FORGET

In my view, ANZAC Day is the most important day on the Australian calendar. A time to reflect on all those brave servicemen and women who have given their lives and to those who continue to serve so that we can sleep easier.

Lest We Forget.

Tassietiger, have you received your new bow yet? I would also be very interested to see some photos and find out who you got it off. What poundage are you after? Recurve or longbow?

Re: New Fella

G'day Hendo. As I use fibreglass on all my bows, I can't really give you much advice except to say use timber stock with the straightest grain you can find. Due to the stresses involved on the bow when it's being used, any grain that runs off will want to split away. Someone else might have more adv...

Pet Spider

My son asked me if I could buy him a pet spider. The hairier the better. So I went to the pet shop to see if they had any. The shop assistant showed me a large Tarantula that was perfect. I asked him how much and he told me $80.

I thought to myself, I could probably get one cheaper off the web.

Re: Wisemans Ferry TRADITIONAL ARCHERY GET-TOGETHER MARCH 20

Thanks Rob and Di for another great shoot. Both my young fella and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was good to catch up with mates and have a shoot. It was a pity I could only stay for the one day but hopefully next year I will be able to stay both.

See you all next year,

well made vid. and you make a nice looking product. Thanks bigbob, as you saw in the video, I've only been making bows for a few years but I'm happy with the end product. Yours are pretty good too. I love your use of the Hairy Oak on the limbs of the longbow on your facebook page. Beautiful grain. ...

That's the one piece bow that Alfonso, the videographer bought. Yep, nice bow. Made with Burbinga and Red Elm limbs.

Ranger Bows video

G'day everyone, I recently had a fellow buy one of my one piece recurves. It turns out that he has a website where he takes photos all over the world and also does videos. He wanted to do a video of me and what goes into making one of my bows and do a bit of a story on me. Not that I'm one to blow m...

I'll be attending this shoot too. I went to it a couple of years ago and it was a great shoot. Unfortunately couldn't make the last one due to unforeseen events. Bugger. Looking forward to the clout and hitting the crow again. Yes I know it was a fluke.

Ranger Bows takedown recurve

This take down recurve is made from Tasmanian Blackwood and American White Oak. Like all Ranger Bows, the lams are made from compressed Bamboo flooring. The limbs are finished off with Tasmanian Blackwood timber veneer and clear fibreglass. The bow has been polished with Scandinavian Oil and buffed ...

Ranger Bows deflex/reflex longbow

This deflex/reflex longbow turned out above my expectations. It's a beautiful bow that fits nicely in your hand. The riser is West Australian Jarrah with American White Oak accent strips. Like all Ranger Bows, the lams are made from compressed Bamboo flooring. The limbs are finished off with Jarrah ...

Re: The Making of a Ranger Bows Recurve

Rob, thanks for the photos mate. It might be worth while glueing at least one piece of phenolic under the solid timber tip. Although I haven't had a problem with my personal bow which gets a pretty hard time of it, from (accidentally) whacking the limb tip on big rocks upon arrow release, to throwin...

Re: The Making of a Ranger Bows Recurve

Rob and Hazard, you've got me worried that I might be doing it wrong, but I'll try and explain as best as I can. Starting with the riser block, I get one side face perfectly flat. Off that flat face I can then plane the two faces that the limbs will attach to perfectly 90 degrees to the flat face. O...

Ranger Bows

I live in Goulburn NSW and have been making recurves and longbows for a couple of years now. I learnt my trade as a cabinetmaker and after buying a Hoyt Dorado and using that for a while, decided I wanted to make my own bow, which was effective but not really pleasing on the eyes. Since then I have ...

The Making of a Ranger Bows Recurve

I was recently asked by a client if I had any left handed recurve bows as he was in the market. I didn't, so it was decided that I would make him one. Below is the making of a Ranger Bows left handed take down recurve. First, the client needs to select the type of timber he wants his new bow to be m...
