Re: 2015 TRADITIONAL ARCHERY GET-TO-GETHER 14&15 MARCH

The photo's do give a good idea of the angles required for shooting at the targets on the escarpment. The biggest challenge of the Challenge Round is getting up to the course. Some were more successful than others. We came back will all 3 arrows intact. Perhaps we will see you there one y...

Re: Glenn St Charles back quiver?

Thanks Matt. I did a bit of checking and you're right, I can get a 5/16'' arrow gripper to replace my 11/32'' one for my Great Northern Sidekick. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Replacement+5-Arrow+Gripper+for+Great+Northern+Bow+Quiver_i5012X_baseitem.html I'll have to buy myself one. 8) I think you'r...

Very picturesque Daryl. Definitely a challenge alright. Our tackle suppliers must love these sorts of shots.

I hope you weren't shooting your good Wallace Woods.

Thanks for posting them.

Re: Is cordovan the ultimate?

Well, I got my Bateman cordovan tab in the mail yesterday. It's very nicely made. I can't get over just how smooth and perfect the cordovan appears. It doesn't even look like leather. It looks more like smooth plastic. I couldn't wait to try it out, so I took it out to my backyard range for a few sh...

Re: Glenn St Charles back quiver?

I hadn't thought of that one Matt. 8) I've given the idea of the 'perfect' hunting quiver a lot of thought though. Realistically, bow quivers are probably the most practical design, but I can't stand the way they make my bow feel lop sided and unbalanced, even the very small lightweight ones. I've t...

Re: Glenn St Charles back quiver?

Yes it does. The Catquiver and in particular the Mini Catquiver are very similar. They're a modern take off, of the Glenn Saint Charles back quiver. Catquivers are okay, but they're a bit too plastic for my tastes. There're not cheap either for what they are. I actually owned one of the original Cat...

Re: Bringing a Yumi bow back from Japan

Posting the bow back to Australia wouldn't be viable, as Australia Post has set a maximum length on all parcels entering the country and it's just a bit over 1 metre. The post office in Japan wouldn't accept it, as they would always look up the restrictions that apply to each country first.

Re: Allowances for Bare shafting

Now come on Daryl. Be nice. I'm sure Matt will end up with a set of arrows that perform beautifully and bare shaft tuning will have played a major part in obtaining those results. Matt is just being very thorough. I'm guessing the reason Matt didn't fit his wraps onto his shafts prior to his...

Re: Ways to fund the running of Ozbow.

Hi Daryl. Yes I totally agree. I have bought a shirt, but I doubt if I'll wear it much. I just don't wear polo shirts. I bought it purely to support Ozbow. Perhaps it might have made more sense to have simply donated whatever the profit margin there is in the sale of one shirt. I was happy to be abl...

Glenn St Charles back quiver?

I've always been fascinated by these quivers. I like the way they protect your fletches from the rain. I also like the way they eliminate the typical arrow rattle that conventional back quiver always have. I also like the way you can access arrows by reaching behind, minimising game spooking movemen...

It would be too expensive for me, I'm afraid. I could go to 10 interstate mainland shoots for that sort of money.

Re: Ways to fund the running of Ozbow.

Did you actually read the posts Roadie? If Ozbow was to be left unchanged, the owners would be burdened with all of the costs of running it. Do you think that would be fair? The suggestions that I and others have made would only effect the people who might be willing to help the owners out. The memb...

Re: Ways to fund the running of Ozbow.

Hi Eddie. Yes, I totally agree, any form of compulsory payment would indeed kill the site. The patron concept that I spoke of wouldn't be compulsory. Basically, you would be paying for the privilege of having the 'Patron' icon as a part of your avatar, as well as helping out Ozbow, of course. If you...

No, you won't get any arguments from me in that regard Jacko. If traditional archers want to experiment, that's up to them and good luck to them. We're all different. How boring would it be if everyone was the same.

Re: Ways to fund the running of Ozbow.

Hi Lyonel. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject. I have also noticed there's a reluctance with many Australian traditional archers to part with their money. I think most of us have a good sense of what's a fair go and what isn't, as well. I hope our sense of doing the right thing would o...

I think if you're looking for more bend, you could get a bit more towards the tips. The last 8 inches or so seem to be quite stiff. It's looking good though. Normally I'd let our more knowledgeable gurus make the expert comments, but I think most of them are away enjoying themselves at Wisemans this...

Re: Allowances for Bare shafting

Matt, If you owned a set of accurate scales, I suppose you could weigh the fletches, wrap and extra nock weight separately and you could then add that exact same weight to the rear of your shaft temporarily and then continue with your bare shaft tuning with the added weight. Perhaps you could tempor...

Re: Do we have any fixed crawlers on the site???

Basically Wayno. The way I figure it, if comps are going to allow string walking or fixed crawling, they might as well allow sights. Not that I'm leaning that way personally. I doubt I would ever try any of these things, not that I have anything against them. I'm happy shooting the way I am, even th...

Ways to fund the running of Ozbow.

I'm also a member of a US based traditional archery site called 'Tradtalk'. Like most forum sites, the funding is always a challenge for the owners. In my view, the funding shouldn't come out of the owner's pocket, ever. Some forum sites simply allow advertisers to rent space on the site, as a way o...

Re: Do we have any fixed crawlers on the site???

Basically, it's a form of string walking. Instead of using your tab or your fingers to work out where to place your fingers on the string, you have a fixed nock on the string (in addition to the arrow nock/s) that you place your tab against. Usually people who use this system have the fixed nock pos...

Re: four feathers off the shelf?

Since I've been bare shaft tuning my arrows, I've found that I don't need anywhere near as much fletching as I once used, as my arrows don't even really need fletching to fly well. With this in mind, when I made my last set of 12 arrows, I cut my 4 inch fletches very low, to about half the normal he...
