Re: Ozbow Shirts

I've just ordered my shirt. It makes me feel good to be able to help out with the running costs of the site and I end up with a nice shirt, so it's a win win situation.

I urge everyone to buy one themselves. It's for a very good cause.

Re: 3D shoot at western Melbourne

I'm planning to come along to this shoot Matt. I don't think I'll bother scoring though, as I very much doubt that my shoulder will stand up to a full days shooting. It should be fun all the same.

Re: Ozbow Shirts

What's the sizing like Eddie? I've seen some Asian large sized shirts that were tiny and I've seen some large US sized shirts that would fit a silverback gorilla. Once I've worked out the size, I think I'll go for the long sleeved shirt in the white (probably in a large). I'll send you a PM with the...

Where's the website?

A long sleeved one might be good, I agree. Personally, I think either a white or a taupe colour would be popular.

Re: Why are sights scorned as much as what they are?

Yes, it's interesting. That's a nice old Wing (or is it a Bear?) Wayno. I'll bet the person who put those sights on the bow didn't think he was wrecking it. Actually it probably looks better with the sight in place, rather than leaving the mounting holes on the bare bow. The SAF sight system in your...

Re: Ozbow Shirts

Do you have any polar fleece lined ones for Victorians? Jokes aside, I'll be buying one for sure once the details become available. Have you thought of doing some cheaper plain cotton t-shirts? I wear t-shirts everyday, right throughout the year, whereas I rarely wear polo shirts. If you dec...

They come in all the popular sizes, I suppose?

Is there a colour choice other than red?

How do we go about ordering them?

Re: Why are sights scorned as much as what they are?

I can certainly understand the appeal of a minimalist approach when it comes to hunting. I love the fact that traditional archers have a system that's totally free of gadgets that might or might not work 100% of the time. Most compound archers I know, are paranoid about bumping their bow and upsetti...

Why are sights scorned as much as what they are?

I've been very interested in archery for nearly 50 years. I can vividly recall reading articles and advertisements relating to lots of different types of sights, way back in the 1960's through to the 70's in the various magazines that were available back then. The sights weren't just for target shoo...

Re: Glove or Tab ?

There's one more thing that I forgot to mention previously. One of the main reasons why I prefer to shoot with a tab is something you might not have considered. It has to do with aligning the arrow directly under my eye. I find I can do this more naturally with a tab, as there's nothing at the end o...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?

No, you wouldn't bother with bare shaft tuning under those circumstances Daryl. I wouldn't either, if my plan involved the reproduction of a tried and tested set of arrows. I would simply make them the same as before. Obviously, bare shaft tuning isn't for everybody. If you look at the poll at the s...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?

Dennis, I will concede, for you, bare shaft tuning is probably not practical for the reasons you have put forward. You must admit though, you are probably not a good representation of the average traditional archer. Your ability to quickly adjust to slight differences in arrow spine isn't universal ...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?

I am not trying to prove you to be wrong in your faith in your system; I remain unconvinced of its necessity or even its genuine benefit. I wouldn't say it was 'my' system Dennis. It has been around for a long time. I only started using it fairly recently. It may seem as though I'm a fierce defende...

Re: Glove or Tab ?

I always carry an extra tab or two, I must admit. Having a spare is always handy when it's wet anyway. One negative aspect of using a tab is they're a little slower to use when a quick second shot is required. A tab will often tend to fold over on itself when you're in a hurry, whereas a glove never...

Re: Spotted Gum flat bow

Regarding the twist, I agree with Perry's point of view. While I have never owned a bow with this 'fault', I have seen other archers shooting their propeller bows very effectively over a many year time span. The twist certainly didn't seem to effect their accuracy or their longevity in the least. I ...

There's also a one day 3D shoot, on the Sunday of that weekend at the Wyndham Rebel Archers at Laverton. It's going to be an all bow event, but it will be very trad friendly, apparently. I plan to go.

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?

Mick, Working backwards, there is not and never was a problem with canting my bow and shooting overspined arrows at greater range. I have never been a vertical bow shooter in my life. You are most probably quite correct in your estimation of what was happening, but it wasn't a problem to begin with...

Re: Glove or Tab ?

Yes, as Daryl said, it comes down to personal preferences. I always used to wear a glove, then one day many years ago, I decided to try using a tab, just to see what they were like. These days I much prefer a tab. A tab isn't hot to wear in the summer. It leaves my hands relatively free, meaning I h...

Re: Byron Ferguson in slow motion.

I doubt it Dennis. It's probably a good thing too in some ways, as anyone with that sort of talent in Australia, would have a very tough time of trying to make a living from it here, as Byron has done in the US. The mental calculations required to hit the aspirin with the arrow must be staggering. I...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?

Tommo, Following Mick's list of references which I watched with interest, I have no doubt of its inherent usefulness as a tool to correct intractable faulty arrow flight, but only AFTER a problem has been established. From my personal standpoint, it is properly a second line remedy following the no...

Re: Bear bow

Good choice, IMO. The Bear Grizzly has been a popular choice for decades. The draw weight sounds about right too. Try to ensure that you get the right arrows for your Grizzly. It's very important to have arrows that are spined correctly to suit your bow at your draw length. Also try to get some good...

Hi mick, cordovans tough and slick but I always stuck with the blackwidow tabs for economy. Consider trying some slick serving materials like what is used on compounds and Olympic recurves, I think you will be surprised. Steve Hi Steve. That's something I hadn't thought of. Is cordovan the ultimate?

I'm of the opinion that perhaps cordovan is the ultimate material for giving the smoothest possible release. Many of the most expensive target tabs have a cordovan face. I'm looking to buy a new tab and I want try something a bit different, something that might help to make my releases just that lit...

Re: Eye alignment directly over the top of the arrow?

The human brain is a wondrous thing. In a very short time span, it can make subconscious adjustments to its inward data, making it suitable to achieving desired results. While it might be advantageous to have perfect eye alignment over the arrow, it's certainly not totally necessary, as the brain wi...

Here's a link to a previous Ozbow thread on the same subject. It has some interesting slow motion shots which clearly show the oscillations that are imparted when an arrow is released.

Re: over bowed ?

From what you've written, I think you realise what you need to do. If your bow is causing you pain, chances are, it's too heavy for you. Many people shoot bows that are too heavy for them, IMO. Unless you have a specific need for such a heavy bow, such has hunting medium sized game or larger, then i...
