Re: Trad archery bling.

Hey Roadie, don't you have a handcrafted bling old English walking stick?

Still trying to get a rise but the trout will not bite.

Still jealous.

Re: Trad archery bling.

Roadie, what would you call wearing a cape trimmed with arctic fox with the head as a hat, the tail on the quiver a fancy walking stick and clothes with thousands of metal rings and heavy leather belts with big knives? Love seeing people wearing classy well worn leather gear they or a mate made espe...

Re: Some Observations on Equipment.

Fanto I was jealous. A ripper. You can do no wrong matey. The whole thread has been interesting and fun. No one has ever offended me here on this site whilst having a crack. Not much point handing em out if you cannot take a better return of serve. Pretty hard to be unhappy if someone is laughing wi...

Re: Some Observations on Equipment.

I give my bows bloke's names......makes it easier to talk to them They are all bows. Jeff I shoot my semi recurve in longbow division because those blokes shooting in recurve are far too good. Funny thing is they are all pitted against each other at the final top whatever shoot out anyway. Fanto did...

Re: Some Observations on Equipment.

I never thought my little cheeky sleeper would get so much mileage. Funny thing is Jeff that I can see semi recurve more than I can longbow and there is no point in saying modern longbow or American flatbow as that is not officially used anywhere. Back to nocks, and the other inaccurate things like ...

Re: Some Observations on Equipment.

One of things about archery is that names are so misleading. Look at the angst caused when discussing instinctive. Even the terms longbow, ELB and self bow are deceptive yet on the other hand terms like recurve and semi recurve are quite precise. You can have arrow knocks which hold your arrow on to...

Re: Some Observations on Equipment.

Thanks for that. A few days ago a bloke showed me a couple of old Bears plus an old Merlin metal tubular take down longbow [white coloured one] marketed by Lillywhites the Sports Goods store. There was also a gorgeous pyramid bow. He just did not believe me that they should be saved and handed down....

Re: Best arrows for trad shoots?

Certainly worth the effort, especially if you shoot target, trad and hunt and love clout. Most folk really only shoot relatively short distances. With bigger feathers that can really snap an arrow into line quickly. Once you get out to 50 metres big feathers begin to be a liability with all the extr...

Re: Best arrows for trad shoots?

Mick I now use bigger than Shark's fins. I use 4 x 2.5 inch but low profile for everything.....including broad heads and for clout. I do however bare shaft them out to 50m and down to 5 before I plonk on the feathers and they are a full 90 degrees apart. Probably would not be allowed at other associ...

Re: Instinctive shooting - an instinctive shooter's perspect

Grahame, it was you constantly telling me that I was collapsing that prompted the change and the improvement. Arthur used to tell me that if you shoot with the heaviest bow you can manage for the day that your releases under power would be crisper. Putting it all together was due to having someone w...

Re: Instinctive shooting - an instinctive shooter's perspect

Grahame, without ramped up hours practising for nationals over 8 years [over 1.000 hours] my normal practise in that time has been nearly 6,500 hours of practising to be lucky. James Larven and Mick Turner ran a workshop for unmarked field. James pulled out his you beaut range finder and challenged ...

Re: Instinctive shooting - an instinctive shooter's perspect

I would add to that the words like a mantra that I learnt from Arthur Fisk Push, Pull, Power, Pose releasing under full power and fully posing/pointing at your target until you hear it hits gets even more important the further away. I am going to stay well clear of headline topic though because I wi...

At the WA World 3D Championships in Austria a few years ago a great number wore hunting knives and the rest wore folding knives/multi type tools......yet they are not allowed to have broadheads in many parts of Europe.

Re: Best arrows for trad shoots?

Mick, It has taken me 7 years to sort everything out to arrive at a point where I am very consistent. I really feel a longbow loves a heavy arrow. Crosswinds do not affect four flights as much as three flights. In fact using two flights at clout is more efficient than three. The thing is not to have...

Re: "Traditional" Target Bows.

I have a couple of really old compounds with one round wheel and glassed wood. Wondering how long before I can shoot them at a trad shoot. I think one is a Pearson.

I also have some few years younger but almost as old as me with metal risers.

They sit in a corner of my garage somewhere.

I shoot regularly at Penrith City Archers [AA] at a midweek shoot for old farts. In fact it is designed for retirees. I was made redundant and have a limited casual income but was made welcome. I find practising tournament shooting is very helpful and they are an interesting bunch of blokes. They al...

our club has grown from 5 ish regular serious shooters 6-7 years ago to twenty something three years ago to well over 50 in the last year......the great majority are one day a week plinkers who seem to pick bare bow and gravitate to shooting a favourite distance. Bare-bowers go around 30 metres and ...

Ditto about tough. Also glue in skewers. Hunt with them and have shot tournaments. A few years ago I competed at the AA Nationals against others using alloys and I used boo for field clout and target. Got two silvers and a bronze, so only slightly under at 60 metres target where I wanted to be. I wa...

Grahame, not misleading at all. I can, I will. I do reserve the right to annoy the open archers at events where there are no divisions. Except for two events out of the i60 or so I have entered since starting archery I have shot less than 24 as an open archer and the rest as Masters [50-59]. My best...

Andy the only thing I disagree about is about boo arrows. This is not a serious strong criticism Andy but there are some people out there who really do love their boo arrows. Totally agree Roadie. The longevity was part of my point. AA rules in all their books go over a thousand pages or so and errors are still made. Fires still smouldering. Still not enough rain. Any hot dry windy days could see it all cause problems. Happy though. Inconvenienced mainly but happy for th...

Re: Bows that qualify for trad shoots and restrictions

I love shooting longbow both at AA and Trad. I do not believe that the progression of modern longbow is advanced with all the differences between various organisations like AA, ABA, 3DAAA. I like playing all of their games plus going to shoots at HVTA / Wisemans. Out of the guys I compete against in...
