Re: Leather glove or Tab treatment
I use mutton fat. I was told to use that on my stock whip when I was a kid, and I still do, and that is on my quiver too.

My new hunting buddy, maybe
I just thought I would show you all my new little hunting buddy, if the wife will let that happen that is. I had a staffy/bull terrier cross for 18 years, who passed away 3 1/2 years ago, he was a great dog. I did not think I was going to get a new dog but then he came along. Mo1.jpg He is only 7 we...

Thank you bigbob I have a long way to go.
I think I will be using a different riser block with this, I have some 50mm by 100mm Tassy oak that I will use.

Re: A Short Bow For A Mate
Glued up one of the recurves yesterday but had a bit of trouble with the form not clamping the lams and glass to the riser. I think I cut out to much so it might be a new form coming. So mid glue up I changed how I was gluing, I took out the riser and will add it to the belly. Not sure what the poun...

Re: A Short Bow For A Mate
I did some work towards making the bow/s today.
Cut out a riser for my recurve As well as getting the lams for both bows, one for me and one for Duncan, started. Still has to be tapered.
More to come.

Daryl where the tape is sitting is about where the string grooves will be by the form pic that it is laid by, so I don't think they will be.

Re: A Short Bow For A Mate
The info that the block from the US gave me said 2 x 0.001/1" tapers as well as well as a power lam. That is a short lam that is just a 1" or 2 longer than the length of the riser, is that right?

A Short Bow For A Mate
A mate of mine from my archery club asked me to make him a short recurve bow. He would like a short bow because he is in a wheelchair. Anyone that has been to HVTA would of seen him Duncan, he is a great inspiration to those that have a handicap as he will have a go at anything. After a lot of searc...

Meranti?
Hi all, has anyone used Meranti or Pacific Maple for bow laminations?
Just thinking as I made bows with it as a kid, pinched it for the grandfather form his cabinet making timber and got a belting for it too.

Re: Keeping skins
I have always skinned them so the skin is in a tub, than turn them inside out, stretch them over a wire coat hanger and salt and dry them. They can then be tanned later when you have a heap.
That was how I was shown by my grandfather.

A Question About Core Thickness
Hi all I have a question for the more advanced bow makers, I am going to have a go at making a recurve that is like the Bear Kodiak super mag, I think that is the one. It will be 43.5" long unstrung with a riser about 10" long. As in this shape. recurve bow.jpg My question is what would be...

Re: Something a little bit different
I can't see why you could not use red oak or tassy oak or even both and make a form and clamp it up.
I don't think you would have to use epoxy to glue it up as it is not flexing like a bow dose.
This is just my thoughts others may have different ideas.
