Looks great Wayno. The timbers contrast nicely.

Re: Out of the hospital back in the shop
Good to see you've recovered and back into the shop. Seems you haven't lost anything, great result on this project. I think the bison horn overlays to cover the plugs is a good idea and will give the bow extra mojo as well.

Re: Archery Fact / Fiction Books - your Recommendations
G'day Perry,
There is a lot of reading available for download such as https://archive.org/details/8hbow . You might need a laptop or iPad so you can read it laying down if you are not up to sitting at the computer for long periods.
Hope you get the pain under control soon.

Re: First Takedown R/D Bow
Great result Murray, the 2 piece tenon and socket look very sturdy. Glad to see you pulled it off with a top result. I have had the gear to make a 2 piece take down for about 3 years and haven't had the fortitude to cut a bow in half. It must have been especially difficult to cut that beauty in half...

Re: Maximum thickness you've made an individual lamination
Muz, RCT is an acronym for Reference Core Thickness. John Clark's definition includes some amount of allowance for "butt stagger" when joining lams near the middle of the bow. I don't have butt stagger because I make one piece (full length) laminations. My modified interpretation of RCT is...

Well fellas, I was logged in and it was also as you said Eddy, I hadn't used the back button.... Maybe it is my Mac that somehow causes the issue. Anyway it is not a critical issue, just shooting the breeze really.

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
The second iteration is looking much better. I have the limbs shaped to 64" NTN, tillered and weighed in at 48.5#@28". It has 1/8" positive tiller on the right hand limb with 8" brace height. The buff horn tip overlays are curing tonight. Maybe this one is a candidate for shootin...

Plain white arrows?
I am making up some new arrows and I have the option make them the same as one of two existing sets I have. Then I thought I'd just make up a very plain all white one to compare. Does it look as good as I think or am I just being too lazy to crest them. These are field arrows, not hunting. Cheers......

It is very reminiscent of the Terminator for sure. Maybe a 19" riser would drop a bit more weight to make it more comfortable.

The search function.
When I do a search, have a look at one of the results and try to go back to search for different words, I get a message saying the search function is not available at this time. The function is usable maybe 5 minutes later, but never immediately following a search. Does anyone know how to get around...

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
It shoots fine BenBow. Quite steady in the hand and seems quick enough for 45#. I haven't even finished it yet because I moved onto the next prototype that will have a wider & flatter limb section. I'll probably have a go with 2 lams instead of 3, so it will have less taper as well. I thought I ...

Re: New heat strips and controller
I found a thermostat controller that may make the heat strip option more viable. I am going to order one with my set of 240V 50 mm heat strips and give it a go. The one issue I see here is that it has no power level control, it is probably only On or Off, so it will apply full power until the set te...

Re: White Oak backed White Cypress Laminate Bow
The bow looks great Nezwin. A+ for aesthetics. Mechanically the design had me worried as the tip wedges transfer work to the inner limb that already takes the lions share of the stress. Perhaps consider building the bow without tip wedges, as the stress is inherently low close to the tip due to the ...

Fantastic result Daryl. In my opinion the brown glass looks a lot better than black would. The creative work to line up the grain feature came off very well indeed.

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
Thanks Dave. Yes, I have a chrony. I have shaped the riser and slowly pulled some of the twist out of this bow. I am going to find out if it is a shooter this weekend before I spend time finish sanding and coating. It feels good in the hand so I am looking forward to shooting it... It fills in the g...

Hi Daryl,
A very informative article. Need to read again and digest properly but it certainly highlight the differences in hand placement for different bow grip types.

Hi Daryl, Thanks for your input. The passage comes from Jim Thorne's "Build your own bow" website http://www.buildyourownbow.com/grip-and-shelf-location-on-a-recurve/ I have read a lot of his writings and I think it is that same article that convinced me that the geometric centre of the bo...

It is starting to come back into line by just stringing it up every no and then and heaving on it. Don't know i it will be a permanent fix but looking like working so far. I might even finish shaping the grip on this one and fling a few through it if it straightens u a bit more. 10EDRBraced.jpg 11ED...

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
That's what i can't work out Daryl, and it doesn't have a lot of propeller type twist in the bent limb, mostly just a sideways bend which is really weird. Maybe there is a soft spot in the fibreglass or the core. The core is three tapered lams of bamboo floorboard.

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
Well this is a new one on me. Before stringing the bow is dimensionally symmetrical apart from the top limb being a fraction narrower than the bottom and also fraction longer (the riser slipped to one side about 1/8" after loading the air hose). There is no twist in the limbs and they appear st...

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
Hi Ben, I don't have a particular speed in mind, but I would like to see the bow launch heavy arrows with authority. I am mainly into hunting but lost access to my usual block and recently I have been club shooting a bit. So many of the shots are well outside my comfortable hunting range. My main pr...

Thoughts on pivot point location
On my earlier straight laid bows I had a fairly shallow grip and had the pivot point about an inch above the centre of the bow and the shelf another 1/2-3/4" above that. I note a lot of Hill style bows have the shelf about 2" above the centre of the bow. Since I have been making more moder...
