Re: Boo backed cypress longbow
Congrats mate you have done well. To me it looks like a bit of a flat spot about mid right limb. I'm sure you will enjoy shooting it. Well done. Eddie Steve, Well done on the test bow. Is the cypress holding up under compression and what profile is the limb cross section? Thanks guys, again it's be...

Boo backed cypress longbow
Finished up my 'boo backed cypress longbow today apart from final fettling and finishing, made from bunnings cypress picket and bunnings 'boo. Made a little differently with high end composite epoxy as I have it laying around and needed using, plus clamped in my food saver vacuum pump bag. This was ...

Thanks Gents, has been rewarding!
If I made it perfect Jeff, I could only go down after that so I had to leave some room for improvement

Osage selfbow
Finally finished off my first Osage selfbow from some timber I harvested a few years ago (and taken me 18 months to build). It's a little snakey and has a mild propeller twist in one limb but so far has shot fine. I've left it unfinished as it came in a little underweight (was aiming for 50#), so I ...

Re: Tribute bow beginnings
Thanks Eddie and Jeff
yes, many hundreds if not thousands of arrows went through the bows and they converted me to the joys of wood bows!
Have most of the makings for a tri-lam here, just need to get my A into G and do a bit of work to make the last few bits and get 'er done.

Re: Tribute bow beginnings
Unfortunately this story doesn't have a happy follow up. Shortly after the story above I heard a 'click' on drawing and let down immediately to find a splinter had lifted. Throwing it in the corner (figuratively, not literally!!) I let it lie for a while until I got round to forgiving it and doing s...

Re: Tribute bow beginnings
Well, time to kick this off again. After a bit of too-ing and fro-ing, Jeff convinced me to take a replacement 50# version of the same bow after I initially declined (thanks mate, glad I did). What with one thing and another it took me a little bit of time to tune up some arrows and was lucky to be ...

Re: Tribute bow beginnings
Fast forward a few weeks and I'm finally feeling like I'm in a place where I'd be happy to take a shot at a breathing animal. I've been trying the feather to nose shot initiation technique which has cleaned up most if not all the occasional wayward arrow and as a bonus has helped me shooting my othe...

Re: Tribute bow beginnings
Yes thanks Eddie, it's a lot of fun to shoot and so light in the hand I can stand at full draw for ages. Obligatory grouping shot, bareshaft and fletched hitting together so good to go! IMG_1621.JPG Had a bit of an issue with the second bare-shaft flying stiff, which threw me until I discovered my t...

Tribute bow beginnings
Firstly, many thanks again to Eddie and the La Varenne family for offering this bow up, I truly do feel lucky to be on the receiving end! I've had it for a little while now and it is my first bow shot off the knuckle, so it was a bit of a tough initiation. I only had a couple of generic 500 carbons ...

Holy shnitzel!!! Wow, thanks Eddie, I've never won anything before so this is an awesome start. Will make sure to put up some photos and stories once I get a chance. Better get me some nice wood arrows to go with it  Many thanks to Dennis' family(?) for donating this, I feel humbled to be the ...

Re: Dynaflight 97 Flemish twist strings
Tom
I'm after a string for a new recurve. String length would be 54" as measured off another that fits and would prefer a 12 count string. Would like black/red dynaflight 97 if you still have some left.
Let me know payment details and if you need any more info etc.
Cheers

yes, I would have taken some had it not been so hot, but I was hoping to get a nice young nanny and didn't want to carry it around with me for the next couple of hours.

Granite Grunts and Goats
Negotiating an arvo off from family duties (phew, keeping up with an active 3yr old is hard work!), I headed out with the intention of heading up the gully I shot my second goat after a bit of loose 4wding to get into gully start. With a mid 30's temp, driving was the preferred method and the S/SW w...

G'day Steve, I'm looking forward to seeing them in a bow also. I don't think I'm going to be able to get over to Vic next year (spewing). Will have to be 2019. Ahh well, you can't win all the time. Stinky Sage strikes again
Thanks Eddie, very generous of all involved. I'll start the ball rolling with a write up I did of a hunt on friday just gone. On a side note, I did find the process of adding photos very arduous, the requirements require a lot of editing to be able to upload them, and I can't get the links to imgur ...

Take Down Limp Slippers
I'm in the process of grafting a set of samick sage limbs onto a nighthawk/lightning riser. The bolt and insert fits fine, but the riser has a pin intended for the nighthawk limbs, so I'm contemplating whether to cut the pin down and install a slipper for alignment, or to drill and insert a sheath f...

Re: Sourcing Black Wattle in Victoria
The king valley is only a short hop from me, so should be no problems getting it to you. Riser blocks I can give you in a couple of different timbers, probably in black wattle as well but veneers/stock may be more difficult as I'm not really able to cut them myself but leave it with me. Let me know ...
