Re: Armguards and hot weather.
Mick ASk Yeoman to make you a medievil Bracer then perferate it with a 12g :P Seriously I made a leather armguard and perf'd it. Better than without, sweat wise. The commercial one I bought has a fabric backing to absorb sweat. Thinking a cut off sock might work better, with a leather patch. (natura...

Hi all Got a little bit more done. Its 25#@26", a little lower than I wanted. It has a hinge on the lower limb, but shoots nice. Things I learnt TB3 Didn't handle this design. Selleys 308 did. and its gap filling too. Carving a handle is not that easy. The red oak I chose was not the best, I pi...

Re: Sinew substitute
Hi len
I saw some dried beef sinew at the Arkoonah park market. It was in a pet stall, so try a pet shop.
It was $2 a piece and was about a foot long. Ive been thinking about having a go with it, but my injuries have delayed me.

Re: WTB old Camp Ovens
Hey Jeff I see camp ovens at the Arkoonah park market frequently - but I've never paid much attention to them. There's an old gent who has a stall every fortnight that mainly has old tools, ovens and other "collectables", mostly Australian, but his prices are erratic. Problem is I'd need t...

Finally took the Phantom out
Hi all Finally got out hunting. Went off too Euston NSW on a Massive wheat property, I think it was 80000 odd acres. Most of the time was spent shooting bang sticks. I did get to stalk one mob of goats. They were originally about 500metres away, but we spooked a roo who in turn spooked the goats, wh...

Been a bit quiet because.....
Hey all I've been quiet, not thru lack of interest but thru further injuries. I've not added a fracture to my right hand and have a nice thermoplastic cast. My kids were tussleing over some chocolate truffles, so I stepped in and sat on my son and grabbed the box. my daughter then pulled the bow dra...

Re: Most Aesthetic Backing Material ? - Red Oak Long bow No.
Seven I backed a Spooted gum Bow with Linen, glued with TB3 and then painted. When the bow developed Chrysals and finally gave way the linen held it together which avoided injury. Remeber linen doesn't add #weight. http://www.ozbow.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=13374 Don't have a decent photo ...

Re: Boo backed Trilam - (I blame bigbob, texx and loosepluck
Hi all After a bit of recovery time I've got 1 3/4 arms working. I had an enforced break from this bow. A few changes, the spotted gum is gone from the belly. It developed numerous stress fractures. I also had a nightmare getting the glue to hold. So I removed the SG, sanded the glue off and thinned...

Rob's rant - Disc sanders and tip overlays
Hey all Disc sanders I have been wandering around hardware stores and browsing the Diy sites, with the mind on a Disc sander. Honestsly, I'm a bit reluctant cuz of the fact that you should only use the one side to sand. Also, for the money I have I couldn't buy anything but a 6" one, and they a...

Re: someone plz help me im a noob
Mr Popo 90mm could be ripped in half lengthways, if it is decking. Make sure its not the merbou with finger joints, ie it must be one solid piece with straight grain. First you need to decided what type of bow you want to make. A flat bow or a longbow? Get the Design eg http://www.ozbow.net/phpBB3/v...

Re: Boo backed Trilam - (I blame bigbob, texx and loosepluck
Hi all Been a bit slow, seems I have done a bit of damage to my arms. Cortizone injection this friday, hopefully a cure. I've got the bow ready to start tillering, just a bit of reglueing where the final belly lam came undone. I ended up using Spotted gum as the belly lam. The riser is Spotted gum/R...

Re: Boo backed Trilam - (I blame bigbob, texx and loosepluck
Good luck! The bamboo came off and the red oak didn't break. The Power lamb is firmly attached to the Boo still. I can't bend it. I guess I learned to check if power lams bend b4 glueing up. I'd checked both the Boo backing and the Red oak lam...The Power lam is 1/4" tapering to feather thin at...

Re: Boo backed Trilam - (I blame bigbob, texx and loosepluck
First one Dave I started tillering b4 the belly lams, the thing won't bend, I can see the oak under horrific strain at the end on the Power Lam. The original build along used Osage, so I made the oak thicker, but I didn't reduce the power lam. I'm thinking I should have. It actually doesn't need the...

Re: Boo backed Trilam - (I blame bigbob, texx and loosepluck
Good Morning Brought the bow inside out of the cold air.Thought a photo was in order. Bow was clamped to reinforce defelx/reflex shape. The belly is a bit flattened midlimb both sides. Looks better than I thought so far. That can be adjusted when the belly lam goes on. Ive decided to use the Red oak...
