New Member
I am a new member to this forum, and having been in discussion about several matters with Jeff C, he has encouraged me to post a bit of a member profile. I am not usually the type to stand up in the crowd, however I have enjoyed looking at everyone else's gear and reading the stories that I thought ...

Some useful things to seal the end your timber would be in order of preference would be - bitumus paint then shellac. The bitumus paint works really well on end grain. If you split the logs then the shellac is really good on the long grain. It is transparent so you can observe the grain when you cut...

Source for Micarta/Phenolic
Can anyone share a source for micarta or phelolic materials? I will shortly need some for bow nocks as my supplies are running short. The existing company that I purchased sold material for knife scales and I needed to resaw the sheets to thickness.
Any help?

My dilemma is current IFFA/ABA rules OK 3 under for Recurve Hunter but must shoot split for longbow or move up a class to recurve. Earlier rules like current 3DAAA said as long as forefinger touches nock OK. Does this mean that because I shoot 3 finger under with my longbow (can't seem to get the h...

Robbo, well done on the improvement. I am sure that much satisfaction has been gained. Jeff, wow. As a new archer I had no idea what a tangled can of worms this issue is. I have downloaded the articles mentioned above and will have a careful read through these also. Dean Torges is a beautiful writer...

If you use 3 under you also have to use a higher nocking point or have the bow tillered for it. Jeff, please indulge me as I think through some ideas that you have inspired. Dean Torges has a great discussion about tillering on his website. It is called tillering the organic bow. In this article he...

I shoot three under. Always have. I use a fairly heavy shooting glove (Martin longbow glove) and find that when I muck around and shoot split that it is not nearly as comfortable. I also have my bows set up with one nocking point above the arrow. I find that when speed shooting I can locate the arro...

Tillering a bamboo belly?
Can anyone outline the process of tillering or building to weight a bow with a bamboo belly?
Where to you reduce the weight or tiller this type of bow?
How can one scrape material from the belly without destroying the bamboo rind?
