Awesome Job Wayno, very dark and mysterious......That name suits it perfectly. A few arrows a day and you'll be soon shooting it like your lighter bows I'm sure

Re: First Takedown R/D Bow
I needed to source some leather for the grip and I was lucky enough to score a $5 leather couch of Bidding wars on Facebook. Was going to strip the whole thing of leather but have just removed the back section for the moment. 20160506_091408_resized.jpg 20160506_174857_resized.jpg Have cut out and s...

Re: My new hunting buddy, maybe
Nice, now the chewing and digging begins. Have fun.. I picked up a 12 month old Bull Mastiff recently. Now my lawn is constantly covered in sticks, logs, shoes, water bottles, a bag of wetta soil he dragged out of the shed the other day and the list goes on. At least Border Collies are very smart, h...

Re: First Takedown R/D Bow
The veneers were about 13mm when the pieces are all glued together. Then I turn it on the its side and put through the bandsaw. They were then put through the drum sander until they were 0.6mm / 23thou. Next thing is to work out how to do the leather grip having never done that either. More research...

First Takedown R/D Bow
So I've made my first takedown R/D Bow. Its 62" and came in at 69lbs@31" so far. Got a bit fancy with the veneers as I wanted something to help break up the bows outline when hunting. The veneers are Blue gum, Jarrah and Sheoak. The riser is Western Woody Pear, Tuart And Jarrah With 2 bits...

Yeah ok. Cheers
I just measure my total stack at the point where my riser fades finish. When I taper my laminations they only start to taper at the fades also.

Re: Maximum thickness you've made an individual lamination
Was going to do that Greybeard but would have got fiddly with the fine tapers. Got no problem using the 3.3mm lams. Just got the feeling when i flexed them in an arc on the bench last night that there getting close to their limits. For example, I don't think my 66" bow with a stack of .525 woul...

Maximum thickness you've made an individual lamination
Just gluing up another bow and was planning on using 3 bamboo laminations each at 2.2mm (86thou). Unfortunately I noticed they all had splits in the orginal glue joints so decided not to use them. As it turns out I had 2 lams sitting there at 3.3mm (129thou) so have decided to use them. These will b...

WA Sheoak is a hardwood. Certainly not at the top end though. I guess only time will tell if its up to the job.
Had a look over your Facebook page, you have some very nice bows there mate.

Re: New Hunting bow "The BoSS"
Hey Greybeard, your on the money again mate. Not a hope in hell of stringing it with out the stringer. Even then you need to be switched on. Don't usually use s stringer with any of my bows but have no choice with the BoSS. Have made a couple of 12 strand strings for it but got side tracked last nig...

New Hunting bow "The BoSS"
So everything has worked out this time round. Very happy with bow finish and performance. Glued it up on boxing day. WA Sheoak veneers and riser. 66" ntn 74#@31" Bare shafted some arrows and it shoots 250 spine widow makers weighing 620gn at 200fps. Should do the trick on the bigger game. ...
