I've never bought or used them Fanto, I just saw an ad for them in a US mag and when TEX mentioned he liked the blue ferrule it made me think of those. I've only ever used the Outbacks which I like quite a lot

Re: "Quiet" archery target??

Cheers Rod

Incidentally those depths of penetration I was reporting up there were with 11/32 wooden shafts. I fired a couple of 5/16 carbons out of a 70# long bow yesterday and they easily penetrated 300mm. Hopefully that helps if any of you are considering building one.

Re: "Quiet" archery target??

Thanks guys but like all my good ideas I stole it off someone on the internet. The same guy had another carpet idea where you get a single long, narrow piece of carpet, roll it up tightly and stuff it into a suitable round frame (like a half a 40 gallon drum). Here's my one here: http://i145.photobu...

Re: "Quiet" archery target??

I've got a backyard carpet target that's basically the same as this: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a276/dustoffer/Archery%20Target/bowtarget0032.jpg Much quieter than my cardboard targets. Hot tip I got from a carpet layer is don't buy carpet. Go to a carpet store and either ask them or dumpster...

How about one out of two?

Their 175 grain heads are a blue that may match your shafts. They're not cheap though.

Re: Roadkill

I have been advised of some other considerations by another really helpful person at DAFF. He pointed out some stuff in the Stock Regulation 1988, in particular sections 38 and 66. These basically place the burden on you to ensure that any animals or parts thereof you are moving across QLD are free ...

Re: Wanted Quivers

If your recurve has a threaded hole for a quiver mount you can get plastic bow quivers for around $50. I used a bohning one for years. A bit of a rattle on the release but if it worried you I'm sure a couple of well placed rubber washers would make it quiet.

Ok, so Department of Transport and Main Roads got back to me. They advised me that EHP is the department to contact for permission to collect road kill (as suggested by others here). Further to that, once the collection has been approved by EHP you then have to apply to TMR for a Road Corridor Permi...

Thanks Mick, I just went through and had a read of that too and some of the other related regulations. I think you're right, without a license its a big no-no. Well she said ....... she wasn't sure regarding natives. Is it her job to track down who you should talk to? Or is the onus on you to find the right department and ask the right people in the first place. Calling this woman names (and slinging mud at people who work for Gov departments) is just unn...

Jesus you guys are harsh. The woman may be just plain scared to commit without being absolutely sure so she doesn't get her bum handed to her later if she gets it wrong. Could be a problem if said photo shows that you chased him for 500m off road in order to obtain said road kill  Fraser. Picture you've been pulled up by some authority figure and they find a very nice yellow footed rock wallaby skin that you claim to have harvested from a road kill. Roadkill

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any laws/regulations in regards to roadkill in QLD. I see heaps of fresh wallabies on the highways near me and can't help but think that's a lot of leather going to waste. Any reason I couldn't harvest them that anyone is aware of?

Re: G'Day All - Bow Selection x 2!

Hi Ken, I'm a bit of a newby at this traditional stuff as well. I recently got 2 sages, one for me and one for my wife. I got her a 30# and I got a 40#, with a set of 60# limbs. I'm reasonably well built in the back so was confident I could pull 60# but wanted to spend some time practising with a ve...

It's too late to matter now, so just fyi, I have a samick sage. I'm 6'1 and have a 29 inch draw and it's very comfortable to shoot. It's my first traditional bow so I guess I don't have that much to add, but there you go :) Oh and I have a Bohning bow quiver mounted on it, it has a mounting point in...

Cheers Jeff. Mine is even uglier than that one because I have wrapped the handle in strapping tape for a bit better grip. It should have 'slippery when wet' engraved in the handle  But it weighs about as much as a teabag (well, a teabag wrapped in strapping tape!).
