Re: Gringa D/R carbon Longbow

Hey Bstan86, the arrows are Widowmaker shafts and come with an outsert rather than an insert. The outsert acts as a footing as well. They're very small diameter shafts and have a 4mm ID and are super tuff. I've used 2 x 3" HDG nails each weighing 90 grains glued in with araldite upfront to incr...

Gringa D/R carbon Longbow

Here's my new Gringa deflex reflex longbow, of which I got Rod to add a layer of carbon. Had it made for a trip to the NT in a few months where I hope to take a Buff with it. It has a Zebrawood riser and comes in at 82# @ 31". Gave it a quick tune this morning then went about tuning some 250 sp...

Re: Heavy poundage gloves

Hey Dan, which of the Black Widow tabs do you use / recommend. Calf hair or Super leather? Doing a 3rivers order and thought I'd try one out.

Re: Heavy poundage gloves

Hey Morgnup, Not really into finger tabs and have never tried a ring but from what i've seen they shoot from the opposite side of the bow. I've also used gloves, I don't mind the Martin Deerskin. Just expected it too last a bit longer.

Has anybody used the Big Shot cross over glove ???

Re: arrow set up for chunky boars

G'day mate, your arrow length comes last. If you have a 29" draw your arrows should be >30". But the length will need to be tuned for correct arrow flight. Most hunting arrow set-ups aim for 10 grains of arrow weight for every lb of bow weight. So your pulling approximately 68lbs@29" ...

Heavy poundage gloves

I've worn out my Martin Deerskin glove in 5 months with the leather splitting right in the joint where it anchors the the string. I can't complain to much as its probably had over 5000 shots in that time. My normal shooting poundage is 70lbs and I've ordered a heavier bow in the 80-85lb for the NT l...

Re: Gascoyne Billies

I rarely shoot with the Checkmate recurve but I was getting over a tendon injury in my RH (stupid speed shooting incident) so I decided to take it as its only 60lbs. Used it the first day and my hand/forearm was all good so I swapped back to the 70lb Longbow. Much prefer my Longbow. Like I said the ...

Gascoyne Billies

A few weeks back I went for a quick drive up the road to my old goat spot some 1100km's away with a few mates. It was 11 years since my last visit to this area and since my last bow hunt for that matter. All the way up we had doubts, especially after Exmouth had received 200mm plus of rain just days...

That sounds like heaps of fun.

I'm just out of Bunbury, 2 hours south of Perth. Not much in the way of traditional archery over here, might have to head over your way next year for a play.

Re: Speed Shooting ???

Hey Greybeard, that sure sounds like fun and a good format. I just went out and tried another hundred arrows, starting from the quiver and at 40m I was able to get 6-7 arrows away. With 3-4 of them getting within 3" of my tennis ball I shoot at, lets not talk about the others. You definitely ne...

Re: Speed Shooting ???

Thanks Guys - I went out before and with a side quiver I was able to get 9 away in 30 seconds starting with one on the string, was shooting fairly close at about 10m and had a dinner plate group. Don't like the sound of not wearing a glove at 70lbs.

Guess I better go and try it at 30m

Speed Shooting ???

I was reading the latest Archery Action story on the memorial shoot and the speed shoot interested me, 6 arrows in 30 seconds. So I went and gave it a go. But I was unsure of any rules so I have a few questions. Do you start with an arrow on the string? Do the shots only count if they are in score z...

WTB - RH recurve 50-60#@28"

G'day, got a mate in Broome chasing a RH recurve in the 50-60# range at 28". He'd prefer a one piece but is also open to take downs and only wants to spend around the $400 mark.

Has anybody got one they'd like to part with?

Do you think it could be made/delivered by end of June ish?

Just though I'm heading north in Sept for a 6 week trip and will need to tune a heap of arrows. Plus practice with it heaps.

Send me your details and I'll ring you and get the ball rolling.

Re: 2014 Bowhunting Goals

G'day All, Have just discovered this awesome forum. Recently picked up the Longbow after a ten year absence from Bowhunting. Of which was mainly done with the compound, but towards the end I was only hunting with the Longbow. I have been doing a lot of practice and preparation for a 6 week trip in t...
