Bidwillii Build-along.
Austromyrtus bidwillii; pronounced: oss-trah-MERT-uss bid-WILL-ee-eye The growth rings are very close together and this may account for the fact that you can violate the growth rings without affecting the integrity of the back of the bow [based on a previous experience]. * 1 Grain Compilation.jpg * ...

Re: Tri Laminate Carriage Bow.
The sleeve system works well when you need to use every inch of the billet. Usually I like to make self longbows 68” n to n. With sleeves I can use 2 x 35” pieces, if splicing it requires a minimum of 2 x 37” pieces of wood. It may not sound like much but it can make a difference in bow design. Daryl.

I found this old image of bows made from Australian hardwoods. * * Aus Hardwood Bows.jpg * * At that time both Glenn Newell and Alan Jones were making these styles of bows but I can’t remember who made these particular bows. Keith Keddie was making similar bows and I think his main timber was red as...

That's some sweet action mate, let us know how it fares with some use. What sort of draw weight is it Looking Good, is it a shooter and what are the specs. Cheers Roadie The finished bow is 70” n to n and draws 35# at 26” dlpp. This was the ball park weight that I was after as it suits the re-enact...

Not My First Choice of Bow Woods…But
Generally I would place Ironbark way down on my list of bow woods because of its physical / mechanical properties. Making a successful bow could be a bit of a challenge. The debarked billet 8’ long and 3 ½” across the crown used for this project had been sitting in my storage rack for about five yea...

It works well for the traditional archers who wish to have an enjoyable weekend using their preferred equipment and do not suffer from trophy fixation.

This packaged deal could be an economical way to try an Asiatic static tip bow without blowing the bank account. I think the limbs may be solid glass. I purchased my hose and fittings from Bingham Projects. Re: Backing materials.
The eel skin should work. I searched the internet but could not find out how thick the skins actually were, the only reference was ‘thick’. The thicker the backing is the more the limb mass increases. As a general rule most backings will increase the integrity of the back of the bow but will not inc...

I have not used this as backing yet but it could be worth a try. If it works well it could be a low cost alternative. Applying the backing starts at 9 mins 50 secs into the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVCMsbF_OD0 https://www.bunnings.com.au/gyprock-easy-tape-90m-plasterboard-jointing-tape...

Hi Eddy,
Beware of cheap imports, some are ok some are not.
If you don’t want to watch the full test fast forward to 19mins 50 sec for the result.

Honestly, I suspect that most of this is sub-par bow wood as it is. It's pretty thin ringed and only one log is reasonably straight and branch free, so I'm hoping to get it cut up enough I can run it through a big table saw etc. to make into riser blocks, overlays, billets etc. etc. etc. Steve, I h...

This topic has been raised previously [about 2011] regarding the measuring of the components of two pack epoxy glues. Since then there may be quite a few new members that have not seen the post. If you do not have access to scales that can weigh small amounts of materials accurately such as two pack...
