Woodworking show etc

Hi all,

Found this while flipping through the local paper, thought someone might be interested. Looks more like fancy working but you never know, they might have some interesting stuff....

Hi guys, Yep, sturdy polypipe works a treat. We fitted our 2 reflex/deflex longbows and a small horsebow (all in their own bowsocks) in a 6" diameter pipe and it was a nice snug fit, nothing was damaged between Heathrow and Brissy. The arrow tubes we taped to the outside were a bit battered but...

Nah, the hangovers were worth it, I haven't laughed so much for a long time    Great to meet so many Ozbowers, and so ma...

Hi Clinglish, Fairly easy to make a simple armguard out of a bit of medium weight bridle leather; cut a piece about 6" long and 4" wide, punch holes along the long sides and use a strip of leather or a shoelace etc to lace the edges together over your forearm. I've known people use milk bo...

I've heard a few bowyers in the UK talk about using bone but some of them seem to think it's too soft for string nocks. Surely if it's tough enough to hold up a 600kg bullock it will hold up under the stress of a bowstring? Most cattle farmers have a spot where they take carcases to decompose, so if...

It's a sunny 8C here today. Been wandering round the walls of Scarborough castle pretending to defend it from marauding Vikings (the imaginary longbows performed beautifully :D )

GraemeA & NCArcher,

We'll be heading home to Brisvegas in a few weeks so if you can't source it back in Oz, let me know and I'll pick a copy up from Carol or Quicks. Gives me a great excuse to get back to the archery shop again before we leave! :)

Hi all, Hilary Greenland is certainly well regarded and well known in trad circles here in the UK. Her book is a collection of practical hints and tips arranged in a (mostly) logical sequence, things she's picked up from many years of archery and bowbuilding. Certainly worth a read, completely diffe...

Another idea: The SPTA (Society for the preservation of Traditional Archery) over here used to do a mock horse archery shot. Mount a saddle on a trailer behind a 4 wheel bike (or get some people to pull it), sit your archer on top and shoot 5 or 6 arrows at a target as you ride towards it, past it, ...

Leigh,

Sounds great! A French Army shot is always good fun too- Stand a dozen cardboard cut outs of knights, crossbowmen, swordmen etc near the bottom of a gently sloping hill. line up all your archers about 200 yards up the hill and all shoot together. Lovely to watch the hail of arrows! :D

Hi all, I feel better, you've all put my mind at rest. I was starting to get a bit worried looking around sites like the archery forum and 3DAAA that all seemed pretty heavy on technology....I don't really feel at home with the idea of all that gear to think about, I have enough to deal with when it...

Hello everyone, Some very interesting points, I thought I'd add my 2 pence worth. I'm an Australian who's been living in the UK for the past 10 years, I've learned to shoot over here. Bowhunting is illegal in Britain so most archery-minded souls who feel the need to get out and commune with nature p...
