Re: New bow wanted
Not sure what my draw length would be,currently is 29 on my compound and also what poundage should I get currently 60lb 70% of compound shooters overdraw their bows, particularly if they are not target archery trained. Likely hood that your correct draw is 1/2" to 1" shorter than current ...

Re: Shooting in the rain
Probably a stupid question but would shooting a wooden recurve in the rain wreck it ?is there anything you can use as a preventative to stop any problems or nothing to worry about ? Cheers Are you talking about a laminated recurve or a selfbow? The previous suggestion is good, or use a Danish or Sc...

Re: article on Dallas Conway.
My first archery book as a kid was Murray's Guide to Archery by Dallas Conway. I cut my teeth on that book and still have it. He had the weirdest shooting style and many of his statements in the book were somewhat incorrect, but I have fond memories of it. Still read it on occasions for a bit of nos...

Re: Tennis elbow and archery
You may have to learn how to use the back muscles more, aside from it being bent, I do not use my elbow to draw at all, cheers sue Sue hit the nail right on the head here. Drawing technique is paramount for correct skeletal alignment to reduce the stress on muscles and tendons. Check out this link ...

Re: Tennis elbow and archery
You might be surprised how well you can shoot with a 30-35# bow over trad distances. Consider dropping your point weight to 100 or 75 grains for a flatter trajectory. The longer distances may require you to work a bit harder to work out the cast, but at this lighter poundage you can take the time a ...

Re: Tennis elbow and archery
The cortisone injections are so much better nowadays, they mix anesthetic with it. A couple of shots of cortisone will only be beneficial, it is the repeated use of it that may cause problems. I had injections into the shoulder a few years ago caused by an old injury (not archery related). The injec...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?
Hey Mick, how's things? Mate, I've always been a "Whack some feathers on and she'll be right" type of shooter. Granted always used spined arrows near enough to what I thought I needed. Now I got a couple of new strings, and bought a new batch of the dreaded carbons, and proceeded to bare ...

Re: Who bare shaft tunes their arrows?
I was not going to wade into this one, but two beers got the better of me. Dennis is pretty much on the mark. Bare shaft tuning is not of great value to the average trad shooter. I know some swear by it, and others who swear at it. If it gives you confidence to bare shaft tune, then by all means do ...

Re: Having a B**ch
No I wasn't quite saying that, but can understand that that is the impression it may have left. I was just a counter, and not expressed well or fully. Many an ABA shoot I have attended where less than 100 shooters attended. What I was just pointing out is that ABA is an extreme of divisions and clas...

Re: Having a B**ch
There is a suggestion that perhaps a better way to go is to reduce the number of divisions. Wouldn't make a scrap of difference, and the opposite is more likely true. And then there is the extreme like ABA where there are multiple divisions, and sadly enough, many different classes. Every one gets ...

Ah ha, I knew it. They're not recommended because they're not traditional enough. Here I was thinking there might be a valid reason why they're not recommended. Really really! It has nothing to do with being traditional enough. As to not being recommended, that is just a personal thing. A flemish l...

TAA- is that timber arrows Australia? I like it! No wonder I just hunt. Well with the options of ABA, IFFA, AA, and 3DAAA offering you bow divisions that will allow scoring with carbons - it would seem that there are other reasons you just hunt. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to be a bareb...

Absolutely! Alas, it seems that due to social media and the news nowadays, people are actually looking for ways to be offended over such minor things, often when it has nothing to do with them. Truth is that many of these people actually get an unconscious kick out of being offended. Gives their ego...

A more accurate method, which takes in shoulder width, is the 'wing span method'. With your back and head to the wall, spread your arms out wide at shoulder height to form a 'T'. Place a mark at the very ends of your fingertips and measure this distance. This is your wingspan. Now divide this figur...
