Re: First recurve.

Good work Bob, like those tips mate 8) . I know what you mean about the control thing, I reckon having the grip further forward in the bow has a stabilising effect, but I have to admit when I was designing the raptor which has a similar riser shape I was in the same mind as Jeff about the way it loo...

Re: couple of new ones.

Very nice Bob, still like that Red palm  . I know where you're all coming from with the left handed thing, I've made quite a few now but it's always a bit disconcerting  , so much so I now write it in big letters diagonally across the page of my order book. I recently sent a bow t...

Re: A small but long awaited milestone.

Way to go Wayno. Satisfying isn't it  . My first kill with a bow was a rabbit (a head shot at 27 meters),,, but having said that I did tackle a few "wabbits" :x prior to nailing that one. I'll never forget emptying my 6 arrow bow quiver all around one red eyed demon from hell that...

Re: WOOD. 3rd most important thing to man?

I agree cmoore,,, maybe not the third but it's definitely up there in the top 10. I find it a little surprising that when listing the most critical things needed for survival most people seem to forget clean air, which is obviously the single most important thing, I mean you have literally about 4 m...

Welcome to Ozbow Herb.
I would suggest one of mine but being your first bow perhaps a cheaper (maybe second hand) one is more in order until you really work out what you want.

Don't mind the guys calling you Wayne,,,, your profile name is a bit misleading  .

Yeah looks like we may have dodged a bullet once again  . Cairns has been very lucky for a long time now, hope the streak continues till well after I'm gone. Thanks for your thoughts guys, it looks like it may take a little longer to get down this way, now they are saying Saturday some time. I think those in Cooktown are feeling it at the moment, hope they have prepared well and are safe.

Battening the hatches once again  . Will probably loose the power, water, phone and of course the internet Friday evening some time,,,, exciting times ahead. Cyclones are one of the few things I dislike about the tropics.

Animal themed bows

Here's a couple I knocked out recently, when asked which timbers they would like, the clients both responded with requests for the colours of certain animals. I like this idea because it gives me a palette of colours to work with. The timbers in the first one are inspired by the wedge-tail eagle. St...

Re: One for Jeff and Daryl

Thanks guys. Is there a particular reason why you insert separate fade wedges rather than having them as part of the riser? It's partly about timber conservation and partly about design consistency cause I use a template to form my wedges. I really don't think I could maintain that consistency shapi...

Re: Houston we have a problem

Greybeard might be onto something we think,,,, maybe the limbs are loading up too close to the riser on the bow and exerting that much pressure in the fadeout area that it gives out if you follow me. The best way to determine if that is the case would be to take a photo of one of the bows that are ...

Re: Houston we have a problem

I use 65 psi, but that should not effect the bond strength unless the join is starved for glue, the high pressure is more about minimizing the size of your glue line. What length is your draw? If it's very long, perhaps the limb/bow design is being over stressed. I also noticed the glass on the back...

Re: Houston we have a problem

It looks to me like the glue has failed between the back glass and veneer. What kind of glue are you using? The limb and particularly the edges of the limb don't appear to be sealed too well which could allow moisture into the timber and create a lot of expansion and contraction (given our extremes ...

Thanks again fellas. This bow seems to have started a bit of a trend, the last two people that ordered a bow saw this one and went for the white theme. Thanks blokes.

Mick, it's 58", looks a bit short cause the string hasn't been shot in (stretched) yet so the brace height is about 9 1/4'' in the pics.

Gday Macca, How's that bow going?

Hey Rod. Here's a thought,,,, the higher the bar, the longer the run up.

Hi Rob,I may be missing something in the translation, can you elaborate on the above? Daryl. Hear hear Daryl, I'm earning less than 1/4 per hour making bows than I do building. So for most of us there's a lot more love of the craft in it than financial gain.
