Re: Happy camper!!!

It was a big surprise! It's her first project in leather work and the bug has bitten hard! Lots of tools and leather on the wa pay to feed her addiction! Can't wait to see what the continued learning and practice brings over the coming years. Ipthe sheath is a cross draw based on a design from a cra...

Re: Masters is going belly up.

Unfortunately my experience with masters has been terrible and I'm not surprised that they haven't been able to make the lucrative hand an market profitable for them. I was eagerly awaiting the opening of the cairns store. And was there for the opening day with money readings spend. Lack of service,...

Happy camper!!!

For nothing more than bragging rights. My wife has been learning the leather carving trade from a rare and talented gentlemen in cairns over the past weeks and made me this sheath for me Buck Kalinga. It's her 1st leather work project and I'm over the moon. The rune on the sheath matches the rune on...

Re: Archery Fact / Fiction Books - your Recommendations

John Flanagan's Rangers Apprentice series is a great archers easy reading series. i think it was more pitched at teenagers but its been a fun read none the less. it quite a big series of books that need to be read in order. i'm on book five and its an easy ready with a lot of archery and woodsman sk...

Re: Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

yeAH we have semi productive conversation again!!,!!,! Toby I don't think anybody has a "problem with the modern limb fitment systems such as formula, ILF, DAS etc. I think it's more that they are a modern system derived from Olympic target shooting primarily and as such not "traditional&q...

Re: Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

well i was warned that this would be a fruitless effort :( Greybeard i'd make a list of the offending people and comments but it would just turn ugly. as for who is at fault with inconsistency thats a good question i'd have to say a mixture of the governing bodies and the clubs/members in equal meas...

Re: Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

I guess I can make a start with an easy category and we can go from there. junior category - age limit: 12 years old - bow type: anything goes that doesn't have pulleys or wheels - arrow type: anything goes - field/ target points only no broadheads unless on broad head target range and under the sup...

Re: Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

I'm much the same i don't care which devison I get lumped in I just want to shoot. But it would appear on here that the sentiment isn't shared and that there are plenty of complaints on the rules of all clubs/ and organisations. I was hoping to get a consensus that aloud everybody (or as close as po...

Re: Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

Thanks Graham, I agree arrows play an important part. I think the use of arrows of the era made of materials of the era should clarify it ie. Carbon shafts were not available pre 1960 for example so they aren't valid for the trad devision. Similarly alloy shafts weren't commercially available pre 19...

Re: Bows that are Trad for comps / events

its not clear cut at the moment Ian,

thats much of the discussion as Trad shoots are undertaken by different governing bodies and clubs with different rules some clubs will allow these in the recurve class and others won't.

its just a matter of knowing the rules from the club you wish to shoot at.

Simple, inclusive, functional traditonal recommendations

ok in an attempt to be constructive. lets assume that the TTA guidelines for what ever reason are not up to scratch. we can argue that one way or the other all day with no real benefit other than stroking egos. SO lets start from the top here and work through a suitable set of OZBOW RECOMMENDATIONS ...

Re: Tapered shafts for hunting

i haven't had the privilege to hunt with tapered shafts but from a logic stand point penetration would be better because the amount of drag experienced as the arrow penetrates would be less compared to a non tapered shaft. so deeper penetration would occur. if i had my brain on we could probably cal...

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

Pure speculation but I wonder if all of this name distinction is irrelevant. I highly doubt the English shooting English Longbows back in the 1500's called them English Longbows etc. I think the reality is that a bow is a bow, is a bow. And they weren't caked much more than that. It's funny that eve...

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

And.... I'm back managed not to shoot the chickens! Why not have recurves, semi recurves, longbows, horse bows and any other traditional bow shoot together in the same devision. For those true to trad shooting wood arrows and a NEO TRAD devision for the multi price take down super bows and carbon ar...

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

i agree that is very much what was called a semi recurve and i have no problems being put in a recurve devision That's great, but I think you would be in the minority who would be happy to do that. I'm not so sure I've shot with hundreds of archers this year in traditonal invitationals and many of ...

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

Kenderic maybe the way i wrote was misleading. i'm not saying that the terminology is correct for Traditional archery with the use of D/R longbow, Hybrid etc. i agree that is very much what was called a semi recurve and i have no problems being put in a recurve devision (if there MUST be one) to sho...

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

Re: new ABA rules on aluminium arrows?

I don't see the need for the distinction to be recognised. Between the bows at a trad event. If there was such a big advantage then we'd see the D/R shooters consistently winning these things and I just don't think that's the case. Those that win would probably have won regardless of the design of b...

yeah its a never ending merrygoround..... i shoot a D/R bow, hybrid, semirecurve, stock bow what ever the hell you want to call it. i shoot it because i like the compromise between a "proper longbow" and a recurve. i shoot carbon arrows when possible because i prefer the consistency and i ...

nothing serious just noticed you were after a Bear curve and now a hill bow in quick succession. it looks like the start of a nice collection is all.

Re: Call to TAA for hybrid/semi recurve division.

It's a tricky issue, I agree that the hybrid bows have distinct benefits in speed over more traditional longbows but as far as shootability I don't know. I choose to shoot a Semirecurve/ hybrid what ever you want to call it bow because I enjoy it. I regularly shoot with recurve arches and we all sco...
