Re: Trad 2018
Temudjin, Not criticising anyone or at least not intended. Associations and clubs exist for their members, the people who stump up with the money that pays for the activity. When the cost and support work is shared by many the cost is little. No club or association can go against their articles of a...

Re: Trad 2018
I was lucky to be a foundation committee person for the Australian Archery Hall of Fame. One of the most pleasing aspects of that was inviting all the associations to participate in the first dinner. From there they found common ground and started to co-operate more. Forget the rights and wrongs but...

Re: Trad 2018
Many people go to a number of different archery "churches" probably because no one group will ever be able to cater for their client's needs. History would indicate that common sense is not that commonly appled hence the need in society for rules. In the abscence of rules anarchy and misdi...

Re: Trad 2018
Oh yay, yet another archery association in Oz. History will repeat itself, folk will disagree and then we have yet another Association breaking off from them. Not for them, not against them. I am already a member of three archery groups. I have nothing against anyone shooting safely in their own pad...

Remember my comment about friction? Tell you what Dennis you are way off beam and out of order. No one contributing here disrespects the Forum, you or anyone else. You are being far too sensitive. It is a discussion. There is no call to get personal if you do not agree with others. Remember two thin...

Re: Traditional Arrow
Everyone draws lines in the sand. trouble is time moves on. It is a bit like a certain group in AA trying to turn back the clock in AA and insist on flat laid glassed longbows with no reflex only catering for only a very small group only and throwing out all the others who have played by the rules w...

Re: Traditional Arrow
Considering most cannot agree what is traditional archery I fail to see anything other than unnecessary friction being created.
Think I will rack up some zzzzzzzzs, wake up early and shoot some arrows.

I have some old horse hoof meltdown boat glue in beads in a couple of glass Bushells bottles. They were my Dads. We built two boats together when I was a kid. I made a boat with my son with most of the rest. I had just a little bit left. Made up some boo arrows using sinew, napped obsidian [bought ]...

Two years in a row Ion Stokes forgot to put on his finger sling on his longbow for the first practice session for the AA National Target tournament. Bow goes sailing out twenty metres in front...........arrow hits target, bow hits turf....sighs and gasps....shock all round. Great archer. Funny times...

Re: How Do You Grip Your Bows?
I hardly grip the bow at all. I make sure my bow hand is located under the arrow in exactly the same spot by building up a line of self amalgamated rubber I use a bow sling. Made of three millimetre bungee cord. I hold all bows the same way.......between thumb and forefinger gripped by or at the joi...

you would not have even seen my dust Fletch- great- boyo.
That is a bargain for some lucky RH archer.
You can shoot that bow in AA events.....might be cheaper to change clubs. Would break my heart selling that bow if I owned it.

Re: info on Damon Howatt
I will take some pics tomorrow and post them. They have a current website and still make custom bows. This bow comes from the mid seventies. Pity I am left handed......then again I can handle 45 pound right handed. I strung it and there are no creeks. Even though used all that time until recently I ...

Got given a RH 45# @ 28inch 60 inch one piece Damon Howatt recurve. Nice looking bow.

Re: What Wood shafts available in AUS?
Tasmanian Oak is the trade name for various Eucalypts including E. regnans and E. delecatesens both are used for termite activity monitors as they grow in high country without many termite species so they have not developed natural defences so not very durable timber species. You have to be careful ...

Re: What Wood shafts available in AUS?
Do not forget bamboo or hoop pine.
Hoop pine is very strong for its mass. Glues works and paints well too.
Old Douglas Fir door timbers with close growth rings/ old growth timber is a far superior timber than modern plantation fast grown timber.

until you decide which alloys to buy, buy Easton Jazz in those sizes as they are very tough and quite cheap.
