I was about to ask the same question as Jeff re: the finish. Looks to me like a tung oil type finish with maybe a rub with the steel wool?

Stephen is right, the tape won't hold particularly well on raw timber shafting.. I have never come across a hard finish it wouldn't stick to. The other reason you might find it doesn't stick so well is that you are using a straight fletch, so the feather is trying to move back to its natural curved ...

That's just beautiful Rod Truly one of the nicest straight laid longbow handles I have ever seen..
Love the way the wenge looks against the other timbers.. it's a nice smelling timber to work with too if you get a good piece.

In order to recommend a good starting point for your arrow spine you'll have to tell us your arrow length and the weight of the bow at your draw. For arrows up to 29" I would be using 1916's out of that bow as a good place to start.

Well I totally agree with Otis.. Of course archers are legitimate "athletes" but target archery is a strength based sport and IMO has very little to do with overall physical fitness and aerobic capacity when enjoyed at a recreational level (ie. we are not all Olympic athletes) Fair enough ...

You hunt public land in Victoria, where anybody who can pay for the licence can hunt using either rifle or bow, and no-one has to book before they go hunting (so you have no idea what usage a forest is getting. How can you be fine with using that public land but find it "bloody ridiculous"...

All I can say is that I most certainly wouldn't be wandering around an area where ther were rifle shooters. They may not do anything wrong but the possibility of a bullet heading in my direction is a situation I do not wish to place myself in. Hunters with set areas is the only sensible option IMO....

Yeah that too! Aa good rule of thumb for recurve brace height is having 20mm of string groove showing after the string leaves the limb.

G'day Moreton :) Is the "screen door slamming" you're referring to on your Gamemaster? It sounds as though your limbs may be out of tiller, more than just a string noise issue. You could try experimenting with shimming the limb pockets to try and get better results.. Layers of tinfoil work...

From what I understand having the bevel on the correct side is mainly to do with how the blade cuts with the rotation of the arrow. I'd think it would make absolutely no difference to arrow flight.

It's not really an issue at all Tom on a straight laid bow... I've made quite a few self bows with the string running off centre to varying degrees and they shot fantastic. The fact that your bow is glass should not make a difference. If you're happy with the way it shoots then I wouldn't worry. :) ...

Matt the only way you can know for sure is to measure the tiller of the bow.. Measure from the ends of the fadeouts to the string on both limbs and work out the difference between the two. A 3 under tillered bow should have an equal distance top & bottom and split finger will have anything up to...
