Importing or taking a bow with arrows into New Zealand
Hi guys, has anyone on here tried taking a bow in a case with arrows (same package) into New Zealand or tried importing into NZ? My work mate is looking at buying a bow package and has been told that if they are both in the same package or case that he can't do that as it is considered a weapon. Has...

Archery Club's in East Melbourne
Hi guys, My husband is moving over to Melbourne at the start of June so I was wondering if there are any clubs or groups that are based in East Melbourne. He'll be working out of Lilydale but as this point we're not sure where he'll be living as he'll be organising this once he is over there but I a...

Re: fires
Just wanted to say that there is a lot of people in NZ that are thinking of the people effected by the fires in Victoria. Such a horrible ordeal to cope with for both human and animal. My husband was shocked to see pictures on the net of the Pakenham area in smoke, he was working in that area a few ...

What spine do I use?
Hi guys, I'm making some arrows for a friends b'day and I've just realised I'm not too sure on the spine. Her bow is #45 at 28inch. I was going to get some #45 arrows but I thought if they were cut down to 28 from 32 (3Rivers) won't that increase the spine making the shafts higher than I need? Help ...

Re: Horn Thumbrings - where to get
Thanks. I am trying to avoid 3 Rivers at the moment as their ones are $35 and I feel they are way too high for their shipping costs.

Horn Thumbrings - where to get
Does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy a horn thumbring from? I'm wanting to give using a thumbring ago but I'm having trouble finding where to buy one in two different styles, horseshoe and teardrop. At this point in time I prefer to buy one rather than make one, might do once I get ...

Re: Who's into the medieval scene?
Well my husband does 1450ish Italian, a bit of wma and sometimes longbow archery (if he can find where he put the longbow) and because we have two horse bows he is also going to have the kit together to do some mongolian stuff too which is kind of funny since he is 6ft 2. My time period is 1410 Pola...

Re: fuel the end
well petrol hit 1.91 per litre here and 1.51 for diesel (plus road user charges for diesels) just insane. I'm taking my 50cc scooter to work now but going for my bike lic so I can upgrade. Hopefully the demands drop off soon so the price drops!

I had no idea how far to cut the nock, I thought it clips on nicely (I'm forever dropping arrows off the bow, think that is my technique thou) so that'll do!! As a matter of interest does it make much difference if it is cut deeper? I think the feather chopper was a traditional cut from 3River...

Excellent, thanks Mick, hopefully these won't be easly lost in the grass  Here is another one I have done but I'm going to order some brass points to go with these as I think the brass will go really nicely with the green and bronze. I also have some turkey feathers that were whole, I've cut t...

New Arrows - any advise?
Hi guys, These are my second attempt at arrows, not fully finished yet as I still need to nock some more shafts and I stuffed up on one as I forgot to seal it (which is why I haven't bound it yet). Also need to get some more feild points as our supplier gave us 11/32 instead of 5/16 but hopefully I ...

Dying Feathers
Hi, do any of you guys dye your feathers? I'm biding on some full turkey wing feathers (just plucked and uncut) and I'm interested in knowing if its not that hard to dye them without ruining them or if its too much work and the end result isn't worth it.
Cheers
Cindy

Well, finally got to test out the arrows on the weekend just been, had a medieval camp to go to. I'm happy with how they went. Few issues I had came down to the fact that a) its a new bow and b) its a new horse bow!! Had to learn a new bow all over and how to hold it, make sure I wasn't choking it, ...

First Attempt at making arrows
Well I finally made some target arrows and I think I bit off more than I could chew!! :D Haven't actually used them yet as they were finished only today. They have hardwood reinforced self nocks, cresting (which looks like rubbish as it was by hand) and binding. Binding is a bit all over the place b...

Hi Perry, loving the information that you have there, as tawhai said in an earlier post we only just got our bows so we're both learning a great deal here. Can you please explain what is a tapered or barreled shaft means? I assume a tapered one is one that tapers towards the point? If possible can s...
