Fastflight and longbows
Just wondered about fast flight strings and longbows. I have heard so many conflicting stories. One story is that longbows stand a fair chance of breaking with FF. Another story is that it is OK if in Flemish twist. Another stressed reinforced tips. I'd be grateful for some informed opinion. I ask t...

Re: Good News...2006 Samicks have finally arrived :)
Just got off the phone with Owen from Archery Supplies and after a long and frustrating wait the new 2006 Samick Hunting range has finally arrived arrived. Included is some much anticipated newer models, including my favourite, the Lightning which looks on paper to be a rocketship. The Outlander lo...

By the way where are you in Yass? The district's not that big. Hey mate, I sent you a PM with my details. That'd be great to hook up. I had heard there was a archery club in the area, but assumed it was all wheelies. BTW, do you hunt with your bow? Thanks Hubris I'll certainly read that PM and foll...

Personally I enjoy the feeling I get slinging a 12oz longbow over my shoulder as I walk back from whatever 'God Forsaken' distant target Ive been sent to. Byron says if I focus I can't miss, he's right, I can now focus on at least four targets per round :) I'm still trying to figure the Byron split...

Hi Brumbies IMHO - You need a lot less stuff when you shoot a longbow (or anything without the accesories). Certainly takes up a lot less room in the car. Hi Graeme Couldn't agree with you more. You might need a slightly longer car with a longbow, but then we have one guy who carries his on his mot...

Hey Brumbies, I'll come out and join you one morning, I'll distract them while you adjust their dial-a-bullseye-widgets-scoping-dongle-drive-shaft-triggulator finger-throttle-a-meter and then we can watch them for a half an hour as they pull out spanners, hammers, screwdrivers to get it all working...

Why longbower shooters are smarter
I shoot Archery Australia stuff two Sundays a month and ABA two Sundays. Lined up at the AA club this Sunday at 8.30am with about 5 compounders with the full gear, release aids and all and about 5 recurvers with full Olympic set-ups. These guys are looking impressive at 90 and 70m. I shoot my longbo...

Re: The archer
"____________________________________________________________ Well now I understand everything, I think. I haven't been keepin' up with the IFAA, but now you've sparked my interest. Hear in this county, in the States, stealing a longbow is a hanging offense. Such nonsense is just not tolerated...

did Reeksy do it??????  Yes Daryl Reeks with 1812 was first, Martin Koini (Germany) 2nd with 1673 and Dave McGuire from Oz 3rd with 1659. Larry Yiend with a bow that would have been far from his first choice finished a very creditable 5th with 1560 and international rivalries aside, ...

Re: The archer
Okay now, I'm a newbie to the Campfire, from The States, and I'm read'n 'bout this lofty dentist. He's a competitive archer, is he? What kind of archery does he practice. I'm interested. Not to imply that I can match him in any way. I started shooting a bent stick about the time Moses was a basket ...

Mick Like you I was surprised at the figures. Make that stunned  - stunned enough to redo all the equations because the figures were so surprising. The cause is the velocity drop off and the increasing time of flight as the arrow energy remains constant. My caveat would be that in the real w...

G'day Brumbies Country, I have used the steel field points for over 25 years and have had very little trouble with points coming off. Like Grahame, I use Araldite and preferably the 24 hr one. Cleaning the inside taper of the point before glueing as Grahame suggests is a good idea. If you wish to r...

Point Attachment to Wood Shafts
This is a very basic question but one I guess I need to ask. Just wondered what type of glue is recommended for attaching metal points to wood shafts? I've been using Hot Melt and Araldite but strike the occasional point removal problem with butts enclosed in wool bale material. This probably relate...

I must admit to being the author of the quoted lines. It reflected the joy of shooting a longbow, the camaraderie of like spirits, and the fun of a competitive shoot  . The longbow readily lends itself to poetic expression and there is something compelling about the history, the quietness and t...
