Thanks. I’ll keep an eye out for that. As I said, this is definitely the largest sight window for me.
I’ll get my wife to take a pixie at full draw over the weekend.
Thanks for the feedback - I really appreciate the advice.

Re: Rainbow #1 (pardon the pun)
Thanks Jeff, I tillered it on the wall and at the time it was pretty even (I’m a bit of a stickler). However, I did do a little finishing work since then which shouldn’t have changed the tiller, but I’ll check again. I *think* that it looks pretty even when strung. I’ll need to get someone to take a...

Rainbow #1 (pardon the pun)
:banana-rainbow: Hi all, I’ve made a few bows before, but I have been working on a new design and I wanted to incorporate a much heavier handle material and a different bow form. After a few false starts, and a lot of waiting for epoxy to cure, I’ve finally got something to show for my efforts This ...

Re: Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
Yeah, I searched the net pretty extensively and I couldn’t see reference to it. But it seems like it might work? Even if the “gasket” was a soaked cloth? Just have to move fast.
I might be better off learning to walk before I run though!

Re: Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
My old arrows were water based poly. My new ones were first dyed bright red; doing more field and I wanted something more findable when I miss! Unfortunately the dye came right through the water based poly and cresting. Therefore I used an oil based spray for creating and then an oil based poly spra...

Re: Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
Maybe the poly I used is worse than normal, but I used a silicon target release (AAE I think?) and I got terrible burn on my first shot.

Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
Hi all, Trying to fight target burn before I make some footed arrows. I have used both oil and water poly and neither were good. My most recent arrows have a reverse capping of about 6 inches now of burned black smears from foam targets. I see that people claim Massey Finish (cheap 5 minute epoxy th...

Re: Choosing a board to make arrows?
Yeah. I have made a deflex reflex longbow from carbon and fibreglass (all from raw materials, not pre-made lams). It is around 50 pounds at 28”. My draw length is more like 27”. That is why the 70 pound rating for the first 5/16 Tas oak shafts was way beyond what I could use. However, I have found h...

Re: Choosing a board to make arrows?
Bugger. I was hoping you weren’t going to say that! The jig I made is designed for 5/16. If I find that the celery top is too weak, I’ll need to find a new wood or make a new jig. :) I was hoping for the toughness of “ash” - I’ve used Bunnings dowels before with ok success, but looking to do better....

Re: Choosing a board to make arrows?
Thanks Greybeard. I have some celery top pine which is meant to be good. (I haven’t tried it yet). I have a bit of Huon pine too (useful living in Tassie). But I don’t know if a heavier board typically makes a stiffer arrow or not. Is there any way to choose which board (as opposed to which species)...

Choosing a board to make arrows?
:Bow Hi all, It has been a long time since I’ve been here (and since lost access to my old email address and needed to re-register. My login (created by my wife) is inspired by teaching my kids to shoot. :) Anyway, I’m getting a little more serious about accuracy and I want to make some shafts from ...
