Re: American Semi Longbow (ASL)
The American Longbow is not to be confused with what is now marketed as a modern longbow or hybrid longbow which is just modern marketing pseudo term for what was called a semi-recurve prior to the 90's. IFFA (The International Field Archery Association) does not recognize the modern or hybrid long...

Re: American Semi Longbow (ASL)
I always used a back quiver for hunting and at archery ranges but as I got older I needed to carry more water when hunting and used a camelbak backpack water supply so had to use a different sort of quiver and ended up using a Fred Asbell quiver which is basically a bow quiver hung over the shoulder...

Re: American Semi Longbow (ASL)
Yes I watched the video sometime in the last couple of months. A bit of an infomercial for the brand bows they are shooting really. Other than Ben the other archers were pretty much shooting equipment, and in a style, that is just so foreign to what the simple longbow represents, IMO. Rather than a ...

Re: Making arrows in Bhutan
Interesting to see. With those light points and then the cello tape and other tape adding weight at the rear of the arrow you wouldn't think they would have much FOC. The cello tape wouldn't have the flex of feathers either. Not sure how long the cello tape would last. Perhaps the cost of importing ...

Re: Manchu Bows.
Yes I have seen people standing near the targets in different videos; not much room for error.
The Manchu bows performance was surprising indeed. If the bows in the video were in the 80# range they sure made it look easy drawing them too.

Re: Manchu Bows.
Wow! I most certainly wouldn't have wanted to be one of those blokes at the target end. :o Some of the arrows looked large in diameter. 80 plus poundage bows are just too heavy; even when I shot hundreds of arrows a week back in the day I could never handle that sort of weight. Around 70# was my lim...

Very good shooting for sure! He put one or two within a metre of the flag I take it but, the other arrows weren't far off either.

Deer seem to be spreading out all over the country. We've seen Chital and Rusa knocked on the road up in North Queensland.

Re: Assyrian / Egyptian Style Bow # 2.
That one looks better than the first one Daryl; the limbs look to have a good bend to them. As you say, with that string angle at your draw length, it would suit someone with a longer draw no worries. Nice work as usual too.

Re: Blackheart Sassafras & River Gum
Unfortunately I was unable to get a photo of the bow at full draw [living by myself] and at the time it did not occur to me to take a photo of it at full draw on the tiller board. As for braced I don’t think the brain was in gear at the time.   Daryl. Next time then Daryl. :biggr...

I like the finish on the blade of that one. I think you better find yourself a saw for cutting that wood up though.

Re: Vintage Bear Archery bows for sale
Hi do you still have any bows left for sale, very interested in a grizzly. G'day Matt, yes I do have a couple left but we have moved and the bows are in storage and we won't be able to get to them until later in the year sorry. Probably be November before we will have them. If you are still interes...

That looks to be a big knife; good for heavy duty camp duties. I have a similar knife made for me many years ago by Dave Keable.

Re: Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
After doing my cap and cresting I just use a clear varnish and wipe on the full length of the arrow with a piece of rag. The varnish I have used was not water based. I hope you get it sorted so your footings keep on looking good.

Re: Anyone tried a gasket dipped Massey finish?
I've never tried that so can't help with regards to using it. With 3Ds I have just used a silicon spray and give the arrows a wipe on the tip end after every couple of targets. It stops the target burn to large degree.
