plantation blue gum for Bows.
I have recently been asked to thin a 10 ha plantation of E globulos ssp globulos (tasmanian blue gum). This plantation has stems that range in diameter from sub 10 cm to around 30 cm. Many stems are bent many are not. The plantation has not been pruned. Some of the stems may be suitable for bow maki...

Being one who thins plantations, you'd perhaps be a great source of smallish trees of various timbers, yes? Most of the trees I work with are too small for any timber use. I do have this in mind and will let members know if I come across anything I think might be suitable. It is actually more diffi...

Thx, Is their much difference between grey and red though, couse i can get red easly grey will prob be a bit harder. Sorry to be a bit off topic Chris I would have said the red ironbark would be harder/denser but I have no science to pin that on. I suggest that any difference would be due to enviro...

Unfortunately no-one seems interested in supplying staves in OZ which is strange given the number of people who do it in the US. Regards Graeme The problem seems to be getting wood free from branches and knots. unless grown at planting densities of 2-3000 sph branches tend to cling on until 10-15 c...

The original log is around 3 m in length and 15 cm in diameter. It has warped a little along its length. I can post pics if anyo...
