Re: Any interest demonstrating bowyers & fletchers craft?

We had a ball at Ironfest this year. It is well worth the entry price. I didn't get to shoot at Kevin's come'n'try because it was always too crowded. There was a long line up all day to have a shot and I kept getting dragged off to see something else. Maybe next year. I do like the idea of b...

Re: Hello all and a few questions

Hi Keach, welcome to the campfire. Another question you need to answer is do you want to hunt or are you content to shoot at targets. This could influence your bow choice. For a big bloke with long arms a longer bow is more comfortable to shoot but not necessarily suited to walking through the bush ...

Re: Kyudo - Yumis being shot

Watch the clip at 1:50. I also have managed that particular maneuver with my bow. You hold the Yumi with a very light and loose grip and if you do it corect the Yumi rotates in your hand (I haven't mastered the rotate bit). I think we have all managed that maneuver at one time or another. Jus...

Re: Interesting Claim

Strange you should say that. :D At the recent SQAS Flight Championships the longest distance shot - and note bows are resticted to Target Bows but arrows are "free" - was with a 60lb compound bow was 497.20m using a specially prepared Flight Arrow. It was very thin with very small fletche...

Re: Interesting Claim

Indeed they could hit something with great accuracy too. I suggest you watch a few vids on youtube with kassai. He is hungarian, not mongloian but it shows an example of there skill. In a olympic competition style comparison, both on ground shooting at a target, I dont think mongols would be more a...

Re: Interesting Claim

Totally agree Grahame. This book sounds like a massive load of rubbish. There is no way a mongol archer could outshoot a modern olympic archer. Yes they could shoot from horseback but that doesn't mean they could hit anything. If you have 200 archers shooting from horseback a few arrows are going to...

Re: Left handed strings

My experience is that strings that are served well do not come undone. I cannot remember ever having a serving I have done myself come undone. Probably the only servings I have seen come undone have been cheap ones on club bows and after a quick re-serving they never give any more troubles. You're ...
