I'd be inclined to leave it the way it is - I don't think there's enough twist to impact the way it shoots. Unless you are strangling her when you shoot her :) If I recall correctly you can reduce one side (the side away from the twist I think) to encourage her to "twist back the other way"...

They shouldn't slow the string down noticably if they are near the nocks... Right near the nocks. The traditional place for silences.

String silencers, maybe? Notice the hole in the centre is cut across so something is supposed to go through there that's generally bigger than the hole itself. Like a button, maybe.

There's a few things I'd have in by bum bag emergency kit that Tracker doesn't. Sharp knife, lighter and strong twine/fishing line. But these shoukld be in your quiver anyway :) A stainless steel signalling mirror (don't have one right now tho). The codeine is a good idea!

Hey Mick, You could simply work from a base camp that you can drive to (or almost). I like to keep that kind of camp at least 1km from where I'll actually hunt, downwind by prevailing winds if possible. That means you can have all the camp comforts you want AND carry next to nothing around during th...

Hey Mick,

Actually, I think they would really appreciate that! They are looking forward to seeing us split the logs... Didn't tell em you will be doing the hard part ;P

BTW. You got a digital camera? Gonna do a tree-to-bow thing on these. Otherwise I'll use the one in my mobile phone.

Mick - I assume the property is near the riverland or in the Southern Fleurieu? If so they won't have any problems getting fresh f...

Leave every fence and gate the way you find it. Tell them ASAP if you find any that are damaged. Obviously be polite to them and their neighbours. Always ask permission for... Everything ;) Make sure your hunting license is up to date and ask them if there's anything they could use a hand with when ...

I guess I've had the good fortune to meet very few snobs from either side of the fence. They exist, but I just haven't had to run them over yet :) .

Guys, I also think a significant part of the negative attitude some trad shooters have towards compounds is because of the crap we have been given in years gone by from compound shooters... In the days when virtually noone shot trad gear any more. Hell, for nearly ten years I just didn't visit a clu...

Pete, guys, Just to share my own perspective... As usual :) I have never shot a compound. My whole life (well... since I was six years old) has been spent shooting recurves, longbows, selfbows off and on. I've gotten a whole lot of different reactions from "serious" shooters over the years...

Buford, I'm with you! The reason it dropped short is twofold, but both reasons are related. Your elbow was bent so your power stroke was shorter - so less power goes to the arrow and trajectory increases. Also, your instinctive shooting is "out" because the end of the arrow is closer to th...

Jeff,

I think you are spot on. Most/many primitive societies that use the bow have armguards. It'd certainly be one tough fellow, who shoots all day long every day, who get's used to the slap with no protection at all.

Pete, Thanks for your input! :!: :) Certainly compounds store and release more energy than traditional bows - never doubted it. This means greater speed with a given weight arrow, which means a flatter trajectory, which means greater accuracy and this is indeed packed into a shorter framework for po...

No, it certainly doesn't invalidate what you said! But it's a bit more exact.

If carbon is lighter per area then it's better near the tip. But thicker and narrower tips also achieve the same thing.
