Re: My latest Recurve
Well the sun finally came out for a couple of hours here yesterday. Took a couple of shots while having a shoot in the paddock. Re: My latest Recurve
Thanks guys, yeah the tips do open up slightly so I guess you'd call them semi static. Have thought about trying some tapers in there at glue up. I'm currently shooting my 630gn woods out of it at 170fps. Works out to be 12.3gn/# (51#@30"). About 10fps quicker than my longbow in the same pounda...

My latest Recurve
Just a quick look at my latest recurve design. Not the best day here for photos so I'll have to try again when the sun shines. Screenshot_20190630-153259_Gallery_resized.jpg She is 62" NTN and comes in at 45#@28" Screenshot_20190630-153216_Gallery_resized.jpg Has a 20" riser with Sass...

Re: Greybeards Italian Renaissance Bow
Hi Greybeard, works out at 7gn/lb. I have the advantage of a 30" draw also. I'm happy with the design and limb performance. Normally shoot 10gn/# or higher but just giving her a hard time to see how she holds up. Will make another around the 40# mark once I try out a couple of other new forms. ...

Re: Greybeards Italian Renaissance Bow
Managed to put a feather into my finger so have added some overlays to create finger grooves to avoid this. Shooting 400 spine carbons out of it at 220fps with the string silencers. Very flat shooting and quiet. Will give it a good workout at the club two day shoot this weekend. 20190526_142632_resi...

Greybeards Italian Renaissance Bow
Re: Interpretation Of An Italian Renaissance Bow Well not exactly..... have been meaning to have a crack at this style of bow for a year now. Finally got around to getting the form made at easter. Then chucked a few bits and pieces together for a trial run. And this is the result, first coat on and ...

Re: Handheld GPS
Hey Guy, we've been using the Garmin Rino 750. Great unit, is a 5w UHF and GPS in one. Has the ability to message between units and show others location on map. My mate and I hunt Vic high country chasing Sambar and its handy to know each others location or send a simple message. Admittedly the UHF ...

Couple of bows in progress
Cut these risers out yesterday, shaped and rough sanded them. Couple of RH Recurves and a LH Longbow. Thought I'd share as I haven't been on here for a while. Have started selling a few to sponsor my east coast hunting trips. Cheers Muz Yarrum Bows 20180930_153312_resized.jpg 20180930_132722_resized...

Thanks for positive comments Perry. Been sourcing a few different local timbers I'm keen to try so hopefully I can create some more appealing bows. Just need to sort my shed out. To many projects on the go.....

I would have certainly taken the back legs and back straps of that billy. Nothing wrong with the meat from a billy although they are stinky critters.
Well done and a Good read.

Do some research mate like Tom suggested.
Start with 10 grains per pound and tune your arrow point weight to your bow.

Managed to get the grip on the bow today and the striker plates. Still using one of the strings for the 62" bows. So will endeavour to make a shorter string in the morning and hopefully take it out for a whistle tomorrow arvo. Very happy with the VHT, its easy to use and extremley hard. Probabl...

Re: Interpretation Of An Italian Renaissance Bow
G'day Roadie, thanks for the update. Love the style of this bow, you wouldn't have a current photo you could post. Thinking about making a laminated glass/bamboo version of this bow with static tips (reverse wedges). Been scribbling a few calculations and ideas down. Already have the plywood wood gl...

Yeah I run an under quilt like in the above photo. They come in different temp ratings like sleeping bags do. Also use a footed quilt in the hammock also. Way easier to get into etc. Its a whole new world when you start hanging. I have a winter tarp for Victoria. The ends fold in link a tent. Good f...

Thanks guys, Yes Steve, its the Big Jim method the same as the bow I showed you. No need for postal address as I run an interstate delivery service. My runs coincides with my Sambar trips by chance. Fiberglassed the socket yesterday and today I've worked on the riser and limbs. After tillering and adjusting the top limb she has come in at 54#@31". Just needs a fine sand now so shouldn't drop much in poundage. 20180111_124009_1515646890827_resized.jpg 20180111_123956_1515646892768_resized.j...

Nice one Wayno, think we can all relate to being zone out on stalking prey and being busted by something you've missed or overlooked. Very jealous of your backyard mate.
Big fan of hammocks also, all geared up to sleep down to -10c now.

Re: Backpacking TD Hybrid build
Managed to get the bow in the oven yesterday after struggling with it for most of the day. It was one of those days when everything was going wrong, the simplest of things took twice as long. Anyway I got there in the end. I did manage to end up with a 16 3/4" riser instead of 18". To comp...
