Really enjoying watching your tinkering - top effort Mate Capital C for Constructive Critiques and Rigid Riser Selfbows Tom, get those inners working a little more so it resembles a Capital C more closely. The Fadeouts look a little short also and not quite blending in with the narrow section of th...

Re: Red Oak Pyramid Bow #58@30"
Tom, I can't find fault with whip ended bows necessarily. I do love big rounded bends, but that does not mean greater efficiency in a bow necessarily. Whip-ended bows have a place for shooting arrows of moderate mass without generating as much handshock deriving from high mass limbs bending over th...

Re: Red Oak Pyramid Bow #58@30"
Hello Tim, Is Red Oak an imported timber? I can't find it in Bootle's book or indeed any of the timber suppliers in Townsville. Cheers... Rod G'day Rod, That's correct, It is imported as far as i know. Masters has been the best supply for me when it comes to straight grained and immaculate conditio...

Re: Red Oak Pyramid Bow #58@30"
Thanks for the kind words so far guys, I know the limbs are working a lot around the tips. Its just to take more pressure off the handle. This bows handle was glued on months ago and I didn't end up using the timber for a while. I only left the handle the way it was because the riser Block was alrea...

Red Oak Pyramid Bow #58@30"
Hi All, I just finished working on another red oak board bow, This one is number three and turned out better than expected. I had no need to back this bow as i was blessed with the straightest grain i could ever hope to see in a board. I'm talking one grain running from dead center of the top limb ...

Hey Folks,
A family friend would like to attend and he would like to know if he needs to be a member to attend? All you need is to be a member of an archery association right? He's with 3D AAA Currently.
Can't wait, See ya's there.
Tom.

Re: Selfbow Tillering Help
Is that spotted gum or ironbark? Hamish. I'm fairly sure it's bloodwood. I find they can chrysal as often as not for no good reason, despite a decent tiller. Just temperamental, unless it was overstrained earlier in the tillering process. Yeah I think the chrysals showed up quite a while ago, Once ...

Selfbow Tillering Help
Hey Folks, Back again with the self bow, After a club shoot a few weeks back perry noticed small chrysals forming on the bottom limb but i think i fixed the problem area and they don't seem to be getting any worse. Can you guys notice anything wrong with the picture? I feel maybe the right limb (top...

Top shelf work  tiller looks good ...how much hand shock did that 50#'er have? Keep up the good work Thanks, it took a while to work it to that shape, there was many times where I thought I stuffed it but it came out quite good. As for the #58'er its a huge hand shocker, I won't lie. The l...

Re: Red Oak Board Bow
The problem here is there's not much turnover of stock so I see the same boards from week to week. I had the exact same problem, I got mates at work who tell me when we swap the spotted gum boards to new boards which helps, but as for masters its really hard to figure out when they restock. It took...

I'm trying to decide what backing to go with, either brown paper bag (on a roll though) or fiberglass tape again. If not that then maybe dogbone rawhide..

Re: Red Oak Board Bow
Thanks Steve, I tried to keep the original dimensions of the board in the middle of the bow to make it as stiff as possible, I assume that's what's keeping the handle attached at the moment. I got two more boards today to get started on, I flipped through every singe board. Got stared at by the shop...

Looking good man! It's cool to see someone using the chew toy raw-hide idea, Where did you get it from? I'd really like to try the same idea on my next bow.
Congratulations on the bub too.
Tom.
