I haven't made sufficient selfbows to wade into the debate in a technical manner here. What I have done however is shoot Glenn's selfbows, all-wood composite bows, and laminated fibreglass bows on many occassions, and again as recently as last weekend. Knowing the topic of tiller was current I paid ...

One approach to achieving consistent weight arrows is to apply additional coats of finish to the lighter weight shafts in each batch. I normally weigh all shafts just prior to commencing the coating process. I'll put aside any that are excessively or ridiculously heavy, then determine the weight of ...

I wouldn't recommend paulownia. It has no feature, no character, and few of the structural properties suited to bow building. Particularly for a first bow I would stick with timbers that are already well proven.

As a guide I made a few laminated lonbows, without the aid of any power tools, in about 10-12 hours. This time excludes glue drying. Power tools - particularly a bandsaw and electric sander - will shorten the time to less than 10 hours. However you might find the more bows you make, and the more too...

Bob, I don't have recent experience in the area but in a former life I spent a fair bit of time in those parts. As you would know, parts of Samford are surrounded by the D'Aguilar Range which does hold relatively small and very wide ranging numbers of pigs. No doubt they make the occassional visit d...

I've done what you suggested and "hit the button and sat back with a beer".

Just as well I only have a few beers in the fridge because I'd be well and truely plastered by now waiting for an image to appear. I can get half of Ayres Rock and thats about it.

Running XP.

Erron I think Fred Asbell, and most other good instinctive archers, place a great deal of importance in having a consistent anchor. It doesn't matter so much where it is, or how long you hold it, but ideally it needs to be consistent if the brain is to learn to shoot instinctively through repetition...

Like Jeff I also bevel the back of all my field points. A further refinement is to drop down in the diameter of your field point. For example a 11/32 field point with a bevel back on a 23/64 shaft should be the end of all your field point problems.
