I haven't made sufficient selfbows to wade into the debate in a technical manner here. What I have done however is shoot Glenn's selfbows, all-wood composite bows, and laminated fibreglass bows on many occassions, and again as recently as last weekend. Knowing the topic of tiller was current I paid ...

One approach to achieving consistent weight arrows is to apply additional coats of finish to the lighter weight shafts in each batch. I normally weigh all shafts just prior to commencing the coating process. I'll put aside any that are excessively or ridiculously heavy, then determine the weight of ...

As a guide I made a few laminated lonbows, without the aid of any power tools, in about 10-12 hours. This time excludes glue drying. Power tools - particularly a bandsaw and electric sander - will shorten the time to less than 10 hours. However you might find the more bows you make, and the more too...

Bob, I don't have recent experience in the area but in a former life I spent a fair bit of time in those parts. As you would know, parts of Samford are surrounded by the D'Aguilar Range which does hold relatively small and very wide ranging numbers of pigs. No doubt they make the occassional visit d...

Well maybe I got my order mixed up and drunk all the beer before hitting the button - because after another try its now working. I notice on another campfire members have been discussing appropriate and 'less than appropriate' animal pictures. I think there might be one or two images on the current ...

Guy Most recurve risers will be able to take inserts without any negative strength effects - however its a bit hard to be definate without seeing the riser. If you can post an image of it you'll get a pretty reliable indication from myself or other bowyers. Achieving a good alignment for inserts mig...

Bob You cannot hunt on public lands such as State forests, national parks or most other kinds of public land - at least not without a permit. I believe that current policies do not support permits for hunting in all but exceptional circumstances, such as where a forest neighbour has a demonstrated p...

Erron I think Fred Asbell, and most other good instinctive archers, place a great deal of importance in having a consistent anchor. It doesn't matter so much where it is, or how long you hold it, but ideally it needs to be consistent if the brain is to learn to shoot instinctively through repetition...

In this way public servants in the Police Department - and normally those closely associated with the i...

Recently a post was made suggesting ...

As well as lobbying your State police Ministers we should try and make submissions directly to the Firearms Policy Working Group - as they appear to be the ones who will provide recommendations to the police ministers. Do we know who is on this working group, or where we could send a submission to b...

I have a Powershot G5 and am very happy with it. I don't know a great deal about digital cameras but I would recommend this one. Mik, You can use it for selfbows, cut and grind laminations for laminated bows, use it to build a composite bow, a bamboo backed bow after you've cut it into slats ........ and so forth. Smaller stuff could be used as accent stripes in risers, nock tip overlays, etc. My advice would be to grab as mu...

Northern Qld is hard to beat. I reckon somewhere up in the tropics but at high altitude is ideal. That way you get the north Australia experience but with a mild climate. The Atherton Tablelands would be hard to beat. I reckon between April to September Cairns is tops. Great fishing and hunting clos...
