My pleasure mate. I hope that it lasts you a long time and serves you well. The ink cartridges should be able to be purchased at just about any newsagents. I really enjoyed turning the horn and if anyone has a lathe I can heartily recommend horn as a nice material to turn. Now I just need to find so...

It was a pleasure to work too (and nice to get something together to pay him back for his generosity). The ignorant goat had crack the horn slightly which made for an interesting time when it came close to finishing it, but after a lot of superglue to stabilise it, I think that it just adds to the c...

Paying my debts...

Hi all, Been a while since I have posted here as I have been pretty busy with work and other things. However, a while ago I was trying to make some horn or home-made micarta nocks. This didn't work as well as I had hoped, but Adam had sent me the horn with the idea that I would send him an arrow as ...

Hi, Just to clarify a few things. I suspect that you are right and the this is a San Mai blade. The reason for San Mai is to produce a beautiful pattern using softer damascus steel and have a very hard core. They are awesome knives (AND swords) if done properly. The fact that yours has a sabre grind...

I expect that some people here may have (haven't myself). Generally, you laminate the bow from two parts so the outside of the bamboo is on the back and the belly of the bow. String follow is the tendency of a bow to remain bent slightly after being strung. It slightly reduces its draw weight (read ...

Yep. Very effective.

In fact, you can make a bow purely from one of the mentioned materials with good results!

317.2, but I struggled for consistency...

Most were about 270ish.

The first time I hit a high one I thought "Yes! High score, but then the damned penguin didn't bounce!

That may be fine on wood that doesn't need to bend, but I dunno about a bow...

Yeah, I think I agree. It looks like they might be a little short. Still very interesting. Finally, as for eBay, bidding really is very easy, but send me a PM if you have any specific questions. One thing I will say is that often people wait until the very last second before putting in a bid (to sto...

Yes... it will work.

The manufacturers tend to design their products to work in certain ratios - some you can play around with a bit, others you can't.

If in doubt trust the manufacturer.

Yeah,

I am actually in a surprisingly good mood about it.

The gluing up went perfectly and it didn't take any time to make the lams etc.

I actually reckon that it was a success (marred only by my lack of thought) - thus, there is no reason I can't get it right next time.

I have some pics and I will post them. I could possibly save the riser, but I am not sure I want to cut it up yet. The jarrah was 2-3mm thick. All lams were parallel - I was trying a pyramid bow design. The jarrah was as close to straight as I could get. As for being brittle, it didn't seem to have ...

Bugger. I have a very interesting yumi shaped bow. I completely mucked up where I placed the riser. This meant that the recurved sections weren't even and the bow has an uneven set of limbs. The result - a bow that really wants to torque downwards. Damn! Well, I was thinking of so many things that w...

As for the real thing, yes, I doubt very much it would have more than about 5 lbs of cast.

New bow gluing up as we speak (read?)

Hi again, I have a new bow gluing up in the shed right now. I haven't got around to building the heatbox yet, but all of the talk about epoxy lead me to finding out that West System Fast Hardner goes off at anything above 4 degrees (rather than 14 degrees as for slow hardener). I am also trialing th...

You missed one thing - have you seen the poster? I doubt that I have EVER seen a bow that would stack so badly!

The string angle is almost 180 degrees...

I told my girlfriend and she rolled her eyes at me.
