Re: Camp ovens
Guy, You may want to check out the Australian Camp Oven Festival which is held in Millmerran just west of Toowoomba every second year - the next one is on over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October 2020. Camping bookings normally open in May and they fill up fast but it is a great weekend. There ar...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.
Kendaric,
I hear you but I guess for my part, I saw "When strung and at brace height, the string must not touch the belly of the bow at all" and thought "longbow". Although I accept that is a simplistic view, but I like simple.

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.
Daryl, You may already know this but there are actually three styles of longbow outlined in the TAA Equipment Guidelines. 1. Longbow - as you have described it above. 2. Hybrid Longbow - basically a reflex/deflex longbow as long as the string does not touch the belly of the bow when strung. 3. ELB -...

Re: Bow Division for Bio Composite Bows.
Hey Daryl, I have for many years shot these Grozer bio composite bows and have sometimes been put into self bow as you say and occasionally even recurve divisions. More recently, at most trad shoots, I am in the "Horse Bow/Asiatic Bow" class as per the TAA Guidelines. For me the issue is m...

Re: NAFA Traditional Rendezvous; 31st March/1st April 2018
A great weekend even though numbers were down on previous years. Comm Games starts this week and the rain on Friday probably scared some folk away even though Saturday and Sunday were fine. About 50 archers enjoyed two 15 target ranges (shot both days alternating 1 arrow and 2 arrow rounds) along wi...

Hey Eddie,
I look forward to catching up Saturday too - see you there. It would also be good to chat about this issue as I think it is serious.
best regards,
Tom

Re: Is it time to move on from Facebook??
I hear you Greybeard.
Have you noticed a "slowing" of posts and comments on OzBow as more people have begun to use Facebook?
I hope to get to chat with you about this over the coming weekend shoot at NAFA - see you there.

Is it time to move on from Facebook??
Given the recent news of Facebook selling their user data without permission as well as scraping phone and text data from Android phones, again without permission, is it time we all reconsidered our use of Facebook as a replacement for OzBow? I joined OzBow some years ago as a way of connecting with...

Hey Eddie,
I'm heartened to see a couple of posts from Gladstone assuring us that all traddies are welcome and given I haven't seen you for a long while (do you feel special yet?) it's now back on my list. I hope to see you there.

Hey Eddie, I hear you mate. It's interesting that Gladstone but on the Muster Flyer for this year the following statement: "All participants must present either an ABA or 3DAAA card" a very clear message there. . . "don't bother coming unless you are an ABA or 3DAAA member and you can...

Re: Proposed Trad calendar for 2018
Hmmm. . . to weigh into a sensitive issue or keep my mouth shut? Anyone who knows me understands I have to have my say, so here goes: I have always enjoyed trad archery as to me is it a quest to shoot as well as I can with the allowed equipment - trad bows and wooden arrows. I still shoot a short, p...

Hey Indie, I can't help with the timber questions but you are already talking with Daryl and he is very knowledgable. But I did remember seeing a Greenland type kayak that is built in Oz and wondered if you might be able to get some info from them on timbers used. The detail of the 0 Six Hundred Kay...

Re: Trad 2018
Thanks Greybeard, that's the clearest and easiest to understand explanation of this issue I have seen to date. No doubts there about the ability to "participate" in the shoot given membership in one or more of the Archery Alliance member associations. I am a current member of the ABA, so I...

Re: Trad 2018
Hi Longbowinfected, you seem to have taken my comments as criticism of all the activities of the Archery Alliance so perhaps I should clarify: One of the key messages I heard about the AA was that membership of one archery association would allow cross participation at other associations shoots via ...

Re: Trad 2018
Jeff, that's not correct unfortunately. You can be a paid up TAA member and then still be told you must be a member of ABA to shoot at an ABA Club trad shoot. I have experienced this personally more than once. And I'm told the same thing applies at 3DAAA club trad shoots as well. One rider here... t...

Re: Trad 2018
Hey Longbowinfected, I read your post with interest and you make some fair and very good points. On the other side of the argument I would say that the existing associations seem to have quite restrictive rules and policies which is one reason why many people are not keen to join. eg the ABA has a b...

it's hilarious, and disappointing at the same time. This is a really interesting discussion that deserves to be heard by and involve many, many more archers. My experience in business tells me that the costs to offer any service (or to run a shoot) are of two different sorts. In accounting they call these fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs do not ...
