Finally back to building bows.
Been out with cancer surgery and finally able to do some work on bows. Been slow and hard to twist my wife's arm to let me in the shop but finally making progress. This is a new short longbow prototype that started as building a set of limbs for Doc Nock's broken recurve. I've copied Doc's riser and...

Grandson's Christmas present
Built this for my grandson's Christmas present. It's a 3-piece takedown bow with the limb attachment bolts coming in from the riser into hidden t-bolts mounted in the limbs. To my eye it gives a cleaner line than the typical setup when the limb bolts stick above the limbs. The riser is cocobolo sandw...

At first glance the riser looked big but when I saw you holding it I see she is a petite graceful lady. Nice bow.

Re: My ugly sister bow
I checked the weight on it and it's 64lb at 28" and 61 at my 27" draw. About 4-5 lbs heavier than I wanted but it will make good elk medicine in 3 weeks.

My ugly sister bow
Here are some pictures of a bow I made for myself. I built it like the one I showed earlier. This is the ugly sister to that one. I haven't checked the weight on it but it started out at 75 lbs before I did the final width and rounded edges. It feels like it could have ended up at around 60 lbs. It'...

Re: Tried a new to me design
Thanks for the compliments gentleman. Jacko I built this for a friend and it's right handed and I'm left handed but I shot this as well as my left handed belly mounted limb bow. I didn't get time to shoot them side by side though.

Tried a new to me design
Tried a different style 3-piece for me I'd only made belly mounted limbs before. So far I like how it came out. Fiddleback maple and rosewood riser, Limbs have lams made from old maple gym flooring with black glass, timber rattler skins, and buffalo horn overlay. 64" 44lbs at 28". I like t...

Re: welding rod
I've used Stu's spine calculator and it works well. One thing that Stu brought up about using an internal footing is that it in effect shortens the arrow because it stiffens the portion it is in. Based on that I picked up some vapor 2000 (35-55 spine) carbon shafts and cut them to 28.5 inches. Then ...

Lam sander project :D
Here are some pictures of the lam sander I built by modifying a set of plans I got from Plans Now. this has a 6" wide table and drum, hand crank feed table, and will be powered by my table saw. Still have the table height adjustment parts to make and install. Looking good so far. http://i122.ph...

Graeme did you have to do any tillering work on this bow and if so did you remove wood from the back?

Re: Heavy inserts for carbon arrows
Matt I don't know if you have 8-32 threaded rod available there but I cut a 4 inch piece and screw it into the back of the insert with a little superglue to lock it in. Then I wrap the other end with black electrical tape to give it a tight fit so it doesn't rattle in the shaft. 4 inches gives you c...

BTW Good luck!
