Re: 62'' takedown
The bows are getting a rest. I pulled a muscle on my drawing arm shoulder blade. Got let it rest
But i have started a new set of longbow limbs and have reworked my riser template to make it leaner and lighter.

Re: Hesitated to post this but it was a fun project
Daryl I had them mounted on a 16" wood riser originally but the weight was 75 lbs. Then I narrowed them to 1 1/16" wide at the fades which got the weight down to 70 lbs then I put them on a 17" riser and got the weight down to 67 lbs which was as low as I could get them. It was a stro...

Hesitated to post this but it was a fun project
Finally healthy enough to get back out to the shop and have fun. I had a set of limbs that came out way too heavy so I built this 21" highly deflexed riser out of 1 1/2" angle iron. I was able to salvage the limbs and the bow came out at 68" nock to nock and 52lbs at 28'. Don't know h...

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
Rod I think you'll enjoy the bow your building it looks fast . It will require you to be attentive to your shooting form but that will help your shooting overall.

May have to steal that grip shape for my next bow. Looks like it would cause your had to slide into the same position every time. Good job!

Re: A new form for extreme DR flatbow
Rod I don't think you'll have any problems with it. My takedown back mount bows have that much reflex and they shoot fine just get the grip to fit your hand repeatedly and it will be a fast tac driver. I did add a power lam about 2" past the wedge but it really doesn't need it with .003"/i...

Re: High desert stumping
Thanks bigbob. It was a fun project and let me salvage a set of limbs that came out 25lbs too heavy. I redesigned my riser and way over estimated the effect it would make. I narrowed the limbs to 1 1/16" wide at the base and they still came in at 67lbs. This 21" riser with 2" of defle...

High desert stumping
Haven't posted for quite a while as I've been fighting and winning in a battle against cancer, but finally healthy enough to get out with my metal monster bow. Dang dry out that was for sure. I had hoped to set up my game cam over a water hole but it and a spring at another site were dry. So I took ...

Re: Had my game camera out prospecting for next fall
graybeard I'm just getting started checking the areas out. We've still been getting snow up high so things will be changing. There is some good green forage up high in the spring areas so I'll be checking different parts of this area over the next couple of months to try and pinpoint the animal move...

Re: Had my game camera out prospecting for next fall
Here are some videos of some mule deer, bull elk, and the tail end of a nice bear. Deer. New Mexico mule deer have much smaller bodies than the ones I'm used to in Nebraska https://youtu.be/pOn5drdc2UY Bull Elk https://youtu.be/TQ8i4oIJENc The bear shows up in the first seconds of the video and it i...

Had my game camera out prospecting for next fall
I so enjoy your stories and pictures of hunts down under so I'm sharing what its like in New Mexico USA. I put my camera near a spring at 9,000+ feet elevation for a week to see what's moving and found some elk, deer, and a few cowboys. I'm surprised the camera picked up motion while having so much ...

Videos showing the effect of hand pressure on bow tiller
To me these videos show you can't use the rule of thumb for bow tiller. It really makes a difference in the type of grip on the bow and the way the shooter holds it. Because of the higher wrist grip on my bows I will start tillering them 1/8" negative tiller and see how they shoot and adjust as...

Re: Penetration test
Yes it's the amount of penetration in relation to the phone book thickness. I really don't need this much arrow other than to get it's trajectory to match my shooting style. Not hunting anything that big but where I point my index finger of my bow hand is where my arrow hits out to 35+ yards. Have t...

Penetration test
Not a definitive study but seemed consistent to me. For me it's the speed weight combo that is important. I like a fast bow so I can shoot an arrow that matches my mental computer that will produce sufficient penetration. If I can get that at a lower draw weight then I shoot more accurately which pr...
