Re: Outdoors and snakes
If you are going to google everytime someone says something, get your facts straight first. This is snake bite fataities correct, but there are snakes not classed as venomous that have killed people as they have had an allergy, where other people would be fine or get a headache. That is what this ta...

Re: Outdoors and snakes
Seige What i am trying to get through is that snake venom developed over thousands of years and not because some white bloke did or did not flog the **** out of them  I understand that, but what people have been trying to work out since the 1930's is why one snakes venom is a lot stronger than...

Rattlesnake research in melbourne?? Sorry if I was unclear, that is being done overseas in America. At the moment Australia research facilities are doing a lot of work in places like papua new guinea, trying to reduce the amount of deaths per year, but with no money in that country, and countless br...

Re: Outdoors and snakes
Slackshot, not sure why you are talking about what venom is, unless I am totally wrong I didn't go into exactly what venom is, the original post was designed to warn people about snakes, it was meant to go to an article which isn't going ahead now. If you want to break everything down and discuss ev...

my information is first hand, it comes from years of experience in the field, in captivity, working with the venom lab at melbourne uni, working and being a part of the Victorian herpetological society. Answering hundreds of questions each year, and being published a number of times. This was design...

Re: Outdoors and snakes
Anger - I understand where you are coming from and the term angry, I have seen some really bad brown snakes and coastal taipans, in and out of captivity and there is really no other word to describe it. They rear up long before you even know they are there and lash out at everything. I think anger a...

Re: NEW CAMERA
You get what you pay for. Being fimilar with cameras even if it was film you are going to have things you expect to see with your camera and areas in which you want the camera to perform. That being said are you better off with a larger investment that will last you longer and take longer to out gro...

Re: Forearm protection
Came from 3 Rivers, they have been really good actually with everything, reply really fast as well when you need something like the issue with this bow. I got a whole lot of gear from them for bow making, nocks, various types of strings etc. Also got a fair few DVD's now, might be able to add them i...

Re: Forearm protection
I was able to send back the left hand riser and they are happy to replace it, they said it actually happens a fair bit, mainly with new archers but on some occasions people make mistakes with not looking at it properly. When I get the RH riser back I will look into getting some classes etc as stated...

Re: Forearm protection
Yes I am an idiot. I thought the LH meant the hand you hold the bow in, not left handed. This means I got hurt as I tried to use a left handed bow like a right handed bow. Pretty stupid of me as I had never got hit by the string until I tried to use this bow, so maybe the forearm protection is fine,...

Cheers guys, thanks for the help. I thought of using soccer shin pads, there ones that go up past the knee, but this might be a bit of overkill :) I have the instinctive shooting dvd and book by Fred Asbell. I just assumed you get hit, and that's life, didn't know your not menat to get hit. The recu...

Forearm protection
Where and what you guys using to protect your arm from the string? I have a half-forearm leather guard but today got a massive whack from the recurve going to be a killer looking bruise tomorrow, and basically need to do something to prevent it happening again. Is it something you have made? or just...

Canon 580 EX ii Speedlite flash
Hey guys, I have a canon 580 EX ii Speedlite flash for sale. This flash is 100% brand new, never been used, except for today when I put some batteries in it to make sure it is in total working order. I have the box it came in, instructions, and a carry case to house the flash in to prevent damage. I...

Re: Attn: Jeff (plus airshow photos)
the other hting I should of mentioned is you have the 5d, this fact alone Ii would keep away from IS. It has the ability to give you a higher ISO meaning you can get a better shutter speed eliminating camera shake and need for IS Other thing is, and most people don't realize this, but when I am taki...

Re: Attn: Jeff (plus airshow photos)
Used to use 300mm or 400mm to photograph footy games, but the company I was hired by owned them, man photographing footy all day is boring. I have been very happy with the 70-200mm for most aplications it has been fantastic, you also have to think about the camera you are using it on, most of the se...

Re: Attn: Jeff (plus airshow photos)
Thanks for the advice Seige. I was interested in the IS because of wandering around without a tripod in low light when hunting and thought it would be helpful in that situation. The 70 -200 is a good lens but the extra reach of the 400 would be great for air shows and out bush also. Jeff ...

Re: Attn: Jeff (plus airshow photos)
So do I, I have only missed one airshow since it started and that was because my son was in hospital after being born at 24wks. I wish they could fly fast the 1000k but australia doesn't let it at airshows. Can't wait for the next one I should be able to bring home better aerial shots during the dis...

I was reading in Grahame's thread about the moon that you wanted the 70-200mm lens with IS If it were I, I would save the $1000 and get the exact same lens but without IS http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/91680-USA/Canon_2569A004_70_200mm_f_2_8L_USM_Autofocus.html Also buy it from that link abov...

This lot is down in Victoria. http://www.woodworkforums.com/f222/hardwood-osage-orange-sale-148178/ I would stay clear of this wood, it hasn't been sealed at all and it was cut sometime ago so it is now useless wood, unless you want a fire with it. I made some enquires into it and spoke to someone ...
