Re: Sambar Cull
Can I just clarify this in my mind. Sambar are introduced, not native, and are currently classed as a game species in Victoria and not *yet* a pest species. Something you wrote, Dennis, read like they are classed as a native animal. And in the situation in question, hunters don't usually have access...

Interesting... my internet filter is blocking this page, flagging it as 'gross/obscene'. The US States are seriously reviewing the use of their lethal injection process due to problems with the methodology. It has proven to not be humane because the initial injection paralyses the 'recipient' but w...

Re: Excellent Work
 Years back, the one thing I always wanted was a custom rifle with engraved action and barrel and a highly figured custom wood stock. As the laws changed I knew that would neer happen, but I took heart in the knowledge I could still have a custom piece... just in a bow. There is some really n...

Re: wild found feathers
I emailed my local Federal MP today and requested she found (and replied in writing with) a definitive answer from a 'Civil' Servant for me and a fast route for exemption/license if required. I also asked for her to pass it on to State Members if necessary and put forward a common-sense amendment t...

These are what my local club uses (link is PDF). Far from sexy, traditional or cool, but very portable and servicable (ie can be re-packed). A layer of cardboard behind the shade cloth, then akle deep in rags, then many many many plastic shopping bags or discarded commercial plastic wrapping or eve...

Sorry, I just re-read what I wrote and realised what a ramble it was. I love how you can shop around for 'scientific' research and studies and selectively report information to support most sides of arguments regardless of how opposing they may be. There are many strange bedfellows out there,... som...

Re: Sambar Cull
Hi Gents. I was a bit careful with what I said, but I probably should have said more. The ACT Kangaroo cull was a spectacular exercise in a very VERY small part of the community succesfully spreading dis-information for their own purposes. There were two main pieces of disinformation. One thing 'the...

Re: Sambar Cull
I think the days of state-facilitated hunting is rapidly drawing to a end. Ministers and politicians are so image conscious they don't want to be seen to be associated with something that some parts of the community might be upset about. The days of strong leadership of politicians are similarly dwi...

Re: What Longbow?
I've had a Internature Viper for best part of 3 years. Shoots well, solid, no problems. Kicks like a mule compared to a smooth recurve, but is much less bad than a couple of other bows I tried - when I was using it regularly I didn't even notice. I have the 'standard' version in the light wood, the ...

All he has to do now is sort the issue of it having the caption 'Mick Smith target' when you hover over it and his work is done! Interesting. My work has a content filter and usually blocks entire pages, though sometimes block ads or banners. It blocks the google ads, and this prevent using the 'back' buttons on the browsers to navigate properly. So if anyone with filters has trouble moving around.... this might be the issue....

There is a critter wigglin' off in some weeds and he's fixin' on eating him for dinner. Stuff can be oh so easy and all complex all at the same ti...

That day I wandered down and said hello sometime after 11 - and had a chat to Chris who was shooting a Samick longbow... I think I had a couple of kids trailing after me. Didn't have the longbow with me that day... was probably a hoyt target bow. The SCA types are good value folk, though only a few ...

Re: estimating trajectory from draw and arrow weight
hmmm a chrono gate @ 90m. Sounds easy. Are they anything like a paddock gate? I think I'll grab a handfull of arra's, couple of bows and just give it a go. The spine might be off, but unless it is fishtailing madly and soaking up all the forward momentum, I should be able to demonstrate the ou...

Re: estimating trajectory from draw and arrow weight
Thanks Simon. With my lighter recurve I am seeing that point-on is beyond 40m and is out around 45-50m, but am anchoring a bit low with split fingers and the index finger on the corner of the mouth. I think a quiet afternoon and some experimentation is called for. Might use a middling distance so we...

estimating trajectory from draw and arrow weight
I might be trying too hard or have too much time on my hands, but I have a query: I want to see just how much flatter a bow will shoot with different draw weights, and then see what the effect is of changing arrow weights. So, I suppose I am trying to find a calculator or chart or something that cor...

On a Trad note, young Tim G, aka Timmah from here scored a win in his class at the ACT Archery Field Championships here in Canberra last week with his horsebow.

It think it was the good Lady Sabine who commented upon my (mundane) performance in my first an IKAC "Yes,... but now you have to try it with funny sleeves".
More research beckons, methinks!

Re: USA Archery - National Traditional Championships Equipment
Is there any guidance on what is a 'period release'? I was fishing around for info as I'd thought SCA types couldn't use stringwalking, but I couldn't find anything the Archery Target Handbook, and the only hard comment was from IKAC rules that even then wasn't that binding. Archers may use any peri...
