Re: The Wrong Way, Again!
I note that the Gladiator series which channel 10 is very heavily advertising every single ad break, shows one of their 'gladiators' with a bow strung backwards. Its cringe worthy to look at.

Re: Looking for advice-Best Arrow for traditional target shooting
Its pretty normal for the string to stretch when new, though fastflight stretches initially less than darcon. It is commonly referred to 'shooting a string in'. One just checks the brace height before shooting, and adds a few more twists in if needed. When really new, it wouldn't hurt to check the b...

Re: Looking for advice-Best Arrow for traditional target shooting
It would appear that the Bearpaw string is made from fastflight. It is not uncommon for the center serving to become a little loose around the nocking point on a factory made string and when you are shooting so many arrows a day. Just get your centre serving re-done using a quality Spectra/Dyneema s...

Re: Looking for advice-Best Arrow for traditional target shooting
Happy New Year Cathey. Going by the information you have provided, it seem that your arrow set is very close to being the correct spine, if perhaps only a very little over-spined. However, without knowing whether you are using dacron or fastflight for your string, and how centreshot the bow is, it i...

Re: Woomera longbow by Ausbow Industries.
From memory, they were about $675.00 give or take a bit. Really good value for money, and an honest shooting traditional longbow. I have owned several through the years, in several different draw weights. I believe BO-TUFF fibreglass was used with mine. I have never had one fail. I never noticed any...

Re: American Semi Longbow (ASL)
Yes, gun barreling an arrow so close to the eye risks potential eye damage should the nock explode upon release. I'm not sure if it is correct or not, but it was my understanding some some shooting disciplines don't allow it because of the potential danger. At least they got the type of bow type rig...

Yeah, this guy is an example of 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing'. Id say he has also watched too many lars anderson clips. I like the way he collapses his anchor 6 inches before letting the sting go - then still allows this to be uploaded as if this wasn't a faux pas. No one said the EWB wa...

Re: Alone - TV series
I see that SBS has been advertising applications for an Australian Alone Series. Now that would be interesting. Perhaps a little frustrating to watch too, as someone mentioned - watching someone starve whilst being surrounded my 1000's of edible native animals. Lets hope the greenies don't put a kyb...

The link mentions the difficulty of finding tubing to use. Brass tubing for hobbyist might do the job. Thin walled and in various diameters. Here is one link: https://www.hobbytools.com.au/metal-tube-round/ Plenty on ebay too. I am wondering if you might be able to braze brass to steel? Would be str...

Perhaps save the riser, and turn it into a 3 piece bow with an alternative brand of limbs?

Bow Shoulder Alignment
When I started shooting some 40 years ago, I did archery lessons at a club. As part of the shooting sequence, the general consensus then was that the bow shoulder should remain pulled down and out. To this day, the ABA still includes this in their FAI Training Programme “Make sure the bow shoulder s...

Preventing Shoulder Injury
I came across this information which I thought might be very helpful for preventing shoulder injury in archery. It is archery specific: Shoulder pain is a problem for many bowhunters. This is not really that surprising if you look at the anatomy of your shoulder and what shooting a bow demands of th...

Re: Which Longbow?
I wonder if some of the problem lies with a hill style bow that has been tapered and narrowed to much in the handle section, facing the archer. I had a longbow made by Howard Hill Archery from the states, and it was very narrow in the handle where my hand rested. It was almost like holding a blunt k...

Very interesting.
I see that he shot both these bows with a right hand Mediterranean grip with the arrow on the right side of the bow as well.
Lars Andersen strikes again.

Re: Which Longbow?
Same. My grip doesn't change from one bow to the next, whether it be a straight or dished longbow handle, a recurve or when I use to have a compound many years ago - that is, with the handle on the thumb side of the lifeline, with the knuckles approximately at 40-45 degress and a low wrist. My finge...

To my surprise shooting the bow was a pleasant experience. Daryl. I too found this bow very pleasant to shoot, and has nice lines (recurve version). It is marketed under a few different brands, but comes out of the same Chinese factory. Some great deals on ebay for this. The draw curve poundage on ...

Re: Which Longbow?
Interesting of the use of the term ASL - American Semi Longbow.
I would image that the aforementioned negative comments would be related to the Hill Style bows that had a degree of set-back, making it a little harsher to shoot.

Re: DECURVE LONGBOW DESIGN
Now look at the size of Byron Ferguson's riser and grip; it looks like a small log. He certainly has no intention of holding the bow in the same manner as Howard Hill did; he couldn't even, because of the size of the riser and grip. I have owned a bow made by Howard Hill Archery. Assuming that they...

Re: TAA Proposed Equipment Guidelines 2020
Going by the current definition, it could be used in either the longbow division or the primitive/historic division, except for a fiberglass version, which would have to be used in the longbow division. Describing the traditional longbow as an Amercian Flatbow is just incorrect, even if it is 'in so...

Re: TAA and string walking
is there any safety issue with string walking, I dont do it but i am curious. I believe the biggest issue could be if an archer gun-barrels the arrow right up near the ear, and if a nock separates upon release, or the string breaks, then there is the possibility of damage to the eye. Probably a ver...

TAA and string walking
I was having a look at the TAA equipment guidelines, and I noticed that Hybrid is the only division (para aside) that does not mention one finger touching the arrow or the use of one permanent nocking point which may be marked by one or two nock locators. Was this deliberate, to allow string walkers...

Mind you, those that had bows seemed like they were reasonably proficient shooters, and some of these were also selfbows. I get the impression that all the contestants were into survivalism. I suspect that these would have been their bows of choice.
