Sorry I’m a little late on this thread so I might repeat something already said but I’ll say it anyway. In a war situation soldiers had problems shooting at the enemy when trained shooting at round targets. When trained shooting at human shaped targets this problem was largely overcome...

For those wanting to make animal glue, hooves and horns will not make glue, sinew and hide will, and so will fish bladders. Bones aren't too good for making glue. The main component of an animal glue is collagen. While there will be some collagen in the cartilage there isn’t any in the hooves...

Wayne, The program takes into consideration the air resistance :P . The parameters like air temperature and altitude, but also shaft diameter, length, number of fletches and fletch size are needed so the air resistance can be calculated. Air temperature and altitude are important because they affect...

Glad you like the program Mick :D . It lets you experiment and helps understand the arrow ballistics without leaving your computer chair. For example, you can create two otherwise the same arrows and change fletching size to one and see how they compare, what difference the change makes. There is a ...

Hi Grahame, I wish it was true  ! Anyway, some people might be mislead thinking that both arrows are fired from the same bow. They aren't as the heavier arrow would depart with a lesser speed. The arrows are assumed to depart with the same initial velocity. The heavier one goes further because ...

ArrowFlightSimulator
I almost finished this arrow flight simulator program but not 100% as I lost the interest in being glued to the chair. The program is written in Java and calculates and draws real time trajectories of arrows for which you can specify parameters as dsescribed at the top of the table. The shot paramet...

Jeff, the bigger the shed the more space to clean and more potential junk storage  . The band saw is not exactly traditional but saves me some time so I can make some traditional bows from time to time. Hmm, does this sound right :? ? Graeme, I’ll show my wife the picture of your dust ex...

Dave, Looking at it it yumi does apear to pivot (in vertical plan) but it is difficult to say because it spins in the hand about its vertical axis. I'm sure there are better video clips around but here is one: http://www.kyudo-sum.de/heki-technik/hanare.html The bows as we know them are not supposed...

Nice to see all these tidy shops, I wish mine is as well but I seem to struggle with the time when it comes to tidying up after the job is finished (just my excuse). My “shop†is a double garage that hasn’t seen any cars for the last ten years as I seem to value the junk more than...

Graeme, This is a damn good looking bow making shed, you had there! I would have been jealous if you still had it  . Seriously, it looks to me like a typical old time Oz rural property shed that can be seen on old photos and water colours, together with the wire fence, the water tank and the tr...

Glenn, I agree, the closer to the handle the more effective energy storage in the limbs :) . For the tiller. I don’t really pay attention whether it is positive or negative as long as the bow is balanced well. If the bow is balanced it will come to whatever tiller it needs to be. If a bow is ...
