Re: NBFArchers 2018 Trad Weekend

So I see on the flyer that your flu flus need blunts and mine have field points on them.
As some shoots need points n them so they stick in the flying discs what do people do for this
I guess the best way is to have some with each.

Re: NBFArchers 2018 Trad Weekend

Rummaged through the shed and found some mixed half sets of different wood arrows so am ready for this shoot.
I think some may have been from the Mary Rose or what ever that boat was called with the old longbows on it.
Cant wait it will be great to catch up with the old faces again.

Re: String maker's wax

I tried what I was told was straight bees wax but it was always sticky and everything stuck to it so started to add a bit of paraffin to make it
a little harder when rubbed into the string. Seeing others that would know use straight wax with no problems maybe I had some dodgy wax.

Re: Amazing new bow material...

Hi Perry I didnt get around properly because I was so sick with food poisoning but was looking out for you. I am not against anyone that fosters archery and makes their own gear but be honest and tell me what it is and dont try to impress me with a material called " HI Tech Australian made polymer" ...

Amazing new bow material...

So the wife and I went to the Abbey Medieval festival and despite a case of food poisoning it was a good day. It is amazing to see how in character both the stall holders and the visitors get with costumes everywhere. I stopped at any of the tents making/selling bows and had a bit of a look and stop...

Re: Gathering

Be great to catch up with you two. You would both have so much to offer newer guys about bow making and hunting in general.
Perry I think it was about 35 a night for non hunters a few weeks ago when I was down there. It is Jackles Hide near Tenterfield
but open to other ideas on location.

OK so I am organizing a trad get together at a bowhunting property near Tenterfield. It is just a chance for like minded people that are into trad bows or just have an interest and want to try to catch up. There will be some fun and games and a swap and sell table. Not sure on dates yet but thinking...

Re: Draw knife..

Thanks for the nice comments guys The steel is from an old sawmill blade and should be something like 1095. I have made a lot of knives from this blade and know that it hardens just right for a nice fine edge. Leaf spring would work for this too but if it is old it may have stress fractures you wont...
