Thanks for the well wishes fellas.
It certainly was a long time coming. I have enjoyed many great days in the bush over the years so it has never really bothered me not getting much game on the ground. But it's nice to have a win sometimes.

9 years + Longbow = Red Stag. (Finally)
I have been a bit busy lately like many of us I'm sure with work and family. I didn't get a chance to head out into the mountains during the prime rutting time this year but a bit after it started to turn cold my wife could see I was a bit antsy so I got permission for a few days solo in the bush. You are right Jindy.... he has been getting his protein in the bush <mostly> and everything else; beer, internet porn, new boots and clothes, camping gear, rifles and ammo and most importantly CARBOHYDRATES from all the huts there are around here for years. One bloke here has lost 3 pairs of boots.....

So I put down my beer....
My wife has been suggesting that I need to do something about the rabbits wandering around here lately. Tonight I was watching some kittens jumping around with a flock of rosellas when I caught some movement to my left. So I put down my beer... nocked an arrow and pulled this vixen up with a little ...

Lol... funny how threads can come back to life... :D I've done the odd bit of forging since this thread was posted. The only changes are that I use two air pipes running off the same old airmat blower, one on each side of the brake drum and I found an old pile of coal near the train tracks in town. ...

Re: How to tan?
I'm trying some foxes right now with a recipe from a local bloke. 500g Aluminium Sulphate dissolved in 4 litres of water. <I used hydrangea blueing solution if you can't find it.> 250g of salt <sodium chloride> + 125g of washing soda < sodium carbonate > dissolved in 2 litres of water. Add salt/wash...

I'm of the "whatever floats your boat" school of thought. If you want to build a comfortable hide and sit 10 yards from a salt lick or a dam and look at birds while you wait for a goat... good on you. I plan to do it when I get too old to amble around.

Well done matey.
Getting close enough to a wild rabbit to take it with a bow is a wonderful achievement.
As mentioned above, give the whistle a go... where there are rabbits, there will be a fox.

To everyone who's mentioned in here or by PM that they'd like a few skins... just give me a little while please. I'm in Thailand, till the middle of December at least, for work. As soon as I get back I'll thaw some out and dry them and let everyone know they are available. Sorry for the delay. Mick.

Re: Silencers?
Mick I've had deer, rabbits and pigs jump the string, there is a reason why we try and make a bow as quiet as possible by using string silencers. Moreton I like to separate the strands of the string and install the silencers that way. That's very interesting matey... the string jumping I mean.... w...
