Thought I would share a hunt with you gent.
Saturday I was helping a buddy try and fill his FT Riley Elk tag. Well we failed to see any elk. But had a wonderful encounter with an easy 150 class mature white tailed deer buck. Sorry for the crappy video but it was take on a cel phone camera. http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_top...

Re: How do you like this one?
Thanks for the kind words. Grey Beard I have put at least a hundred arrows through it and no sign of an issue. The knot make a nice place to put your thumb if you are right handed. I put the filler in because of sharp edges and hole I knew if I tried to get it out I would run a risk of have in a two...

Re: Salvaged Osage processing advice
Nice looking hedge. chase a ring and make a bow I say. Also Osage response very well to dry heat from a heat gun or other source. I personally don't like steam on it. Some do though. Just oil up the area you want to get straight. But looks like you got most straight with a saw.

Re: Let me introduce you to the red devil.
Sorry Rob,
It is 67" NTN pulling 61#@29". And she is an Osage Long bow. Yep It is thin leather and I thought the black would go real nice with the red of the skins.

Let me introduce you to the red devil.
Well this is the bow I made for the PA Trade. It is also the first bow I have named. It is also the heaviest draw I have made. She is dressed with Corn snake skins I traded for at MOJAM for a bull snake skin I had. The stave came from MOJAM last year. Given to me by Dean. The leather on the handle i...

Welcome Jeff
Yep Hackberry is usual very straight, but I find a knot hidden under the bark. It does give them some character.

Re: Ok Gents Here is my latest
Jeff, It is Hack berry, a fairly common tree in the eastern US. It is about 62" ttt. Pulling about 50lbs at 28". Hackberry is a very under used wood here in the US for bows. It is not yew or Osage but it will give hickory a run for it's money. And toasting the belly really gave it some sna...

Ok Gents Here is my latest
Ok here is some pics of the bow I made for a bow swap on another site. The skin is one snake and I am amazed at the difference in the pattern. It is an eastern black rat snake very common in the US. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e383/gillk/IMG_20130731_193405_216_zps14c58879.jpg http://i43.photo...

A bow for my 4 year old nephew
Ok finished up this little bow for my 4 year old nephew. I am new to the bow building and learn on every bow and this one was no exception. It started as a failed bow back at MOJAM. I was trying out power tools and learned although you can make one fast you can mess on up even faster. So what was a ...

Re: How many bows dont work??
Col, I am really new to this making bows myself. I have attempted 5 bows and only 2 of those were shooters the other 3 failed. The first shooter did end up breaking after I harvested a deer. So for me the odds are not good. However the more I work on the wood the better and more confident I am becom...

jeff it has set at the fades I really don't thank heating it up and trying to take it out would get ride of that so I put the reflex in about the last 3rd or so and that give it a R/D look. I really dont know if it will work but I will find out by about Friday. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e383...
