Very clever. Well done and thanks for documenting the process.
To me, this is the essence of "traditional" archery, you've made a wooden longbow with your own two hands, and then accurately shot it.

Re: Carbon or wood to be or not to be that is the question
I remember 20 years ago when I was learning to shoot, the senior guys at the club used to warn that wooden arrows could shatter, and aluminum was preferred on safety grounds. If any of those guys are still shooting, I bet they are using carbon shafts.

I shot a round with a young chap a while back, who told me he had been stopped by DSE officers whilst pursuing deer in Victoria. He said they had a scales and used it. He thought himself lucky, as he had been considering letting the bow out a little, but hadn't gotten around to it, and feels he woul...

Re: Instinct arrow tuning conundrum
I'm shooting a similar poundage bow using 2016's of a similar length and while I need more time on the range, they may be a little week, when bareshaft tuning. With fletching they fly ok. I suspect you may find your arrows too stiff. You can get yourself a range of heavier points to test if your sha...

[ I was sure here in Vic you can not wear a helmet into a bank or petrol station they even have signs on the doors, will try and get a pic in the next few days. Yep, banks have signs, it is legal for them to ask people to take their helmet off or they will not serve them, this is not the same thing...

Here are a couple of thoughts; One piece bows can be difficult to travel with, and costly to post. Two piece bows have the same traditional look as a one piece, but I'm told the mechanism is expensive. Three piece bows are pretty common, but I've not really heard about people buying replacement limb...

David, The standard regarding brace height is as I have mentioned unless it has changed recently. Your bow is obviously one of the modern adjustable type bows and as such I suggest you check with the manufacturer regarding the correct brace height for it and how they measure it. Jeff Yes I shoot a ...

Re: A few setup questions on an Assenheimer recurve
Can't help you with what brace height to use but you measure it from the deepest part of the throat of the grip to the string. Jeff I've read this too, but on my bow I think the brace height would more accurately be measured as the distance from the string to the plunger button. I think the point w...

Re: A few setup questions on an Assenheimer recurve
I'm no expert, but I've seen this type of question asked before in a number of threads, so here are some things to think about. Age of the bow. Older bows generally require a bit more give in the string than these modern minimal stretch strings. The tips can apparently snap off. Is this a new bow? I...

Yes, I'm still shooting aluminum arrows, and yes they do bend sometimes.
I guess I'll try carbon arrows one day, but I like the $4 per shaft price point, makes me feel even if I do bend or loose the occasional arrow, I'm still better off. I should stop and check that is true one day

Are these arrows the very heavy footed shafts you posted about earlier? I find if I shoot a field point into a stump like you have I have trouble getting it out, and the shaft may be not so straight afterwards. You've mentioned you can't bow hunt in Germany, can you walk in the local woods with a bo...

It's a romantic notion. 30 years ago, my parents bought into some land with a number of other permaculture enthusiasts. It didn't work out. Nothing nasty, but they just didn't seem to be able to agree on how to move forward and eventually lost their momentum. The main guy, then moved to Crystal Wate...

Imagine if someone suggested that bats (baseball, cricket, whatever) can be, and have been used for violence, and everyone wanted to own one had to be a member of a sporting club, and have a license!
Do you think many politicians would support the end of backyard cricket?

I just moved from three under to split, not had any of the problems with my fingers but I was (and sometimes still am) pinching the nock of the arrow that was affecting arrow flight. I do this too. When I pinch the nock, I tend to see the arrow swing left on the rest as I draw, so I let down and do...

I have one of these in Predator Camo. It's very good, however I do find that it's a little harder to fit the long ILF limbs into it. It's a better fit for medium limbs.
I'm happy with it though, and I'd recommend the item to anyone looking for a compact takedown carry bag.
