Re: Making a Braided String

Not only can you make a flemish string now you'll notice that as you sit around in the bush you'll start using natural materials to make cord. 'Tis a great way to while away the time.

Re: When are you ready for hunting?

Choose the size of your kill zone say 10"diameter circle and shoot at it, keep backing up til you can't hit it consistently and that's your maximum range. Then start shooting really long shots 30, 40 60, 70 yards etc. the long shots make you better at the close shots. Shoot lots of "blank ...

you're invited to a trad event in Alberta Canada

I know it's a longshot, the Alberta Traditional Bowhunters Association is having our annual shoot on the first weekend of August. If any of you blokes are in the area you'd be welcome to join us. Check out our website for more info www.albertatraditionalbowhunters.com

cheers!

Re: Moose Hunting

I'd say the moose in the first pic isn't retouched. The trees behind it look about the right size, it's a narrow road though for sure. The moose in the harness isn't actaully a very big moose. The moose in Northern Alberta are 6" at the shoulder, and about 1200 lbs for a big one. They sure are ...

Re: buffulo hunting question. now with chrono data

I took this quote from Dr. Ashby's recent post on tradgang....I'm sure lots of you blokes have seen the same statement. I'm just repeating it here for those who don't get over to tradgang. "With heavy arrows, the ACS-CX at 64#@27" delivers exactly (and I mean that literally) the same fps a...

Re: buffulo hunting question. now with chrono data

Now to throw some more chili into the pot. Dr. Ashby did his testing with a HH style longbow. These are notoriously harder to tune than a modern R/D style longbow (like my A&H ACS) I have the utmost respect for Ashby, but I think a lot of his data has been achieved while shooting a bow that isn'...

Re: hello from Canada

I'm not from B.C so I don't know much about their regualtions. However every jurisdiction in Canada has seasons and when that season is over the liscence is......garbage! I have many unused tags because I buy one of everything each fall, just in case the right animal should cross my path. I'm on my ...

Re: hello from Canada

My buddy had a "thimble" made of space age material that sews right to the roof. I'm not so organized and I put a piece of plywood over roof hole. The plywood had a piece of tim screwed onto it and the pipe goes through there. Brilliant idea to charge per shot for arrows. We have a free ta...

Re: hello from Canada

Longbow Steve how do you use the festival as a fundraiser? Do you charge people to shoot? We have local clubs that shoot trad and one dedicated to longbow. Some of these members are hunters but not all, obviously our group is for hunters. We have a shoot every summer and it's great fun, and the kids...

Re: hello from Canada

The yurt is homemade, it's my buddies. I have one too that I made but mine has some modern materials in it. Mick I don't shoot a horsebow although I have taken a couple shots with them. I don't think I'm man enough to use one consistently. I have a pse recurve, a nice little custom r/d longbow and a...

Re: hello from Canada

Well it seems I need to learn how to post pics on your site, I'll poke around a bit and figure it out. Anyhow these pics are from last fall (2007) we use yurts for camping and they are darned comfy, the ram was in a no hunting area and they get truly big in that area. Cheers http://i35.photobucket.c...

Re: Arctic grayling

Nice to see you caught a Grayling. They are a gorgeous fish aren't they? They're not bad eating either, some people don't like them but cooked in butter over a campfire anything is hard to beat.

hello from Canada

Hello all, I'm a traditiona bowhunter from Canada. I'm a member of the Alberta Tratitional Bowhunters Association I've been trying to see how other organizations run their websites so that we might copy some successful ones. It looks like you guys have a nice site! A bit about myself. I've been usin...
