Re: Head Shots?

I thought there was a reason people don't do them. I always thought it was because of the power needed to get through the skull, but interesting points on the head moving and the fact that you have to hit the brain as well.

Head Shots?

I was asked an interesting question that i hadn't really thought about much before the other day. It was basically asking whether or not you could go for a head shot as a quicker way of killing something? I was thinking you would probable want something more like a target point and a bow around the ...

Re: Drying Wood

In the past when drying wood I have painted the ends with beeswax this tends to prevent splitting. you can also take the bark of to speed up dry times. i haven't personally dried olive wood. but i have dried some small logs of celery top and horizontal scrub very successfully using this method the c...

Re: Fibreglass cloth for woodbows

There are two different types of uni directional carbon tape. One like norm said has polyester or nylon thread but there is another which has fiber glass thread. if you can get the later it works to my very limited experience. I made a horse bow with it in my earlier days but didn't taper the lams i...

Re: how do you straighten a fibreglass fishing arrow?

I am not sure as to what resin the fiber glass arrows are made out of but if they're a fiberglass epoxy mix you just need to get them around the HDT(heat deformation temperature) usually 60-70 degrees Celsius for most epoxy's once at this stage they should be able to be straitened much like a wooden...

Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)

I had a bit of an issue with the tiller as it looks asymmetric yet the most the limbs differ from each other is 2mm so it very close (for me at least :)) I still have to varnish it but i have shot it a few times and it seem pretty god all in all i am very happy with my first ...

Re: The final stages of my Recurve :)

The bow has stayed at about 65C for the last 24 hours ( i let it cool before) So I pulled the bow out and was wandering what dimension do you think I should cut the limbs to? The current width is 1.5 inches and the limbs are all parallel in thickness.

the end is in sight

The final stages of my Recurve :)

Just thought I'd keep anybody who is interested informed about the progress of my bow so far. I have just completed the final major glue up of my bow which was gluing the belly fiberglass lamination up after fixing the belly of the bow up. I managed to get the belly thickness to a variations .001 Th...

I believe that some horse bow are designed to use a stringer as they have a second set of nocks. IMHO this would be the best way to string the bow.

Re: Making a fishing arrow

Okay so I got back of the boat a while ago now (few weeks) I was shooting with a 33# hickory self bow. Seems as i did not have time to machine some heavy wooden arrows I just brought some 8mm solid fiber glass and used a normal 125 grain glue on tip drilled a whole through the tip bent some piano wi...

Re: Making a one peice recurve

The handle is about 24" I think. I just brought .030 fiber glass for two bows so I don't think I'll be buying more any time soon. I'll probable just glue the bow up when I get back from water polo tonight and see how it goes so the final thickness should be around the .240 range.
